everything was fine until comcast cable guy came and didn't know how to hook up the motorola 5100. I have a toshiba 50hdx82, a progressive dvd rp-62, vcr, onkyo tx-ds797. Also, is it better to run components straight to tv versus through a/v receiver I need assistance hooking all this equipment up or direction to links. :(
For a start, see the FAQ on "cables and connections". At the end is a link on how to set up the SA3100HD. The motorola will be a bit different, but it'll give you an idea.
You can connect through the receiver or straight to the TV, whatever your preference.

By going through the receiver, should I worry about the signal. Which is better?
Depends on the receiver. If your receiver has wideband component switching, it's no problem (more than 25 MHz will do the trick).
If you don't, or if you're worried about "signal loss", simply connect the component directly to the TV (the sound can go to the receiver).
Sometimes there are advantages in terms of switching by going through the receiver. For example, you could have several components connected through the receiver, going to one input on the TV. For sound you need to change the input on your receiver anyway, but you won't then have to change the input on the TV.
It really depends on your preference. You can try it both ways...
