Whats the best buy for the money. Money is a major factor, but Features/compatibility with DirecTV and eventual upgrade to a HD reciever are up there. As is reliability picture, and if possible abilty to stack components on top. I want reliability and picture quality.

Sony KP51WS510 - $1799 51" Widescreen

Toshiba 51H83 - $1799 51" Widescreen

Pannasonic PT-47WX53 for $1399 47" widescreen

Phillips 55" 55PW9363 - $1799 55" widescreen W/ Portable DVD player

Thanks for your advice!

hmm. Hitachi & Mitsubishi are curiously absent from your selections. These may cost a little more but they do have the reliability, PQ and the Hitachi certainly has the "features" that you mention (see the FAQ "If only I'd have known").

Look at the various other FAQs if you haven't done so already.

i would stick with either Mits or Hitachi as 57 stated. you might pay a little more, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for............

Its because those are in my price range, at Best Buy(where I have an account) and fit the space requirements/restrictions I have.

If I had unlimited funds, I would look into the Hitachies, or hell my own DLP, Plasma or projection screen.

But those are my options at the moment, OF THOSE, what is the best deal.

See if the FAQs I mentioned before can help you chose. These TVs in this price range will probably have the same picture quality, so pick one based on aesthetics, or size, or features...

When you say the Hitachi, you mean the 51F500? Which is about the same $?

I agree with 57, save your money and go Hitachi or Mits. I have the Hitachi 65XWX20B and most of my satellite viewing is not that far below HD reception and it's definitley better than a dvd picture.
HD is totally awsome on this set.

Hitachi65XWX20B/Apex 800 DVD/Samsung HD Directv set top/Panasonic SA-HE 100 6.1 A/V rec./ Phillips TIVO/ 6 Polks 1 Sony for rear.
