As everyone knows, Directv offers local broadcast stations. I'm in the Detroit area and I hear several Detroit area stations broadcast in HDTV, even with their local programming.

So I'm pricing out HDTV satellite systems for use with my new HD-ready TV, and I have a question.

If I sign up for local channels (and please don't tell me it's cheaper to buy an antenna, I already know that), will they come thru my HD receiver as a HD broadcast, or will I need an OTA antenna for HD local channels anyway?

I called Directv and they said no, the HD signal will come thru the local satellite feed as is with the HDTV satellite dish and receiver. Are they correct?

No, because you cannot get your locals in HD. They will be digital but not High-Def.
The HD programming supplied is HBO, Showtime, Hdnet and a payperview channel. yes you will need an antenna.
