Hey guys,
I'm gonna buy a Samsung HLN DLP model soon. Right now I have Time Warner Digital Cable. I was wondering if I still need a HD set top and a OTA antenna for HD channels.
Basically after I buy the tv, what do I need to make the most out of it besides adding surround sound. Also, what does DVI support or what is it? I did a search but can't find it cause it's under 4 words.
Thanks,
JT

Digital cable is not HD. With that you would then need a TW HD box to get the HD channels instead of the basic digital box.

TW will provide the HD box if I have a HD tv. I will have to set up another appt so they can come out and exchange the box I have now free of charge. I don't know if TW offers the local channels in HD, but I don't really mind if the local channels arent HD.
So the STB and the OTA are only optional IF I want my local channels to be HD right (only if they're offered in HD though)???
In this case I don't even have to get a STB or OTA if I don't mind about the locals, correct?
Am I catching on? Or still off the path?
Thanks a bunch,
JT

What do you want HD for? If you are talking primetime -CBS,NBC,ABC almost all are in HD -this is where the bulk of HD programming is.
If you are talking Movies/Sports etc - then HBO, Showtime,HDnet and ESPN HD are subscriber specfic meaning not available for free.
Either way you will need a STB either provided by the cable company or purchased for either OTA and or mini-dish.

i think your not understanding what kevin is saying... IN order to receive HD programming you need 2 things... either a OTA HD stb which will only pickup OTA programming orrrrrrr an HD stb from your local cable or sat. co....................
