Help! I guess I am just thick, but I cannot understand what a HDTV with Integrated ATSCTuner does that most other HDTV's don't.
For example, I am thinking about buying a Samsung DLP set and will use HD Directv receiver and also try to get some HD transmissions with rooftop aerial. The Samsung is not integrated I know.
If I got an integrated HDTV, what does that do that I cannot with the setup I just described? I want to position myself for the future as much as possible and would get integrated if that is better down the road. Appreciate help here from a real confused person.

Integrated would probably be easier (read less remotes) for people not familiar with satellite boxes for example. I don't think integrated is quite where you want to be right now, perhaps when the company's start adding the POD (point of deployment) cards which will allow you to access encrypted cable programming. At this point if I were buying a set I would get a separate tuner based on the solution you are going to use, OTA, Cable, or Satellite.

Avoid integerated. As improvements come to STB's or if you switch from providers like DISH to cable to Direct you can then choose between them. If the tuner should malfunction then the whole set is down for the count not just one item. Think integrated TV/DVD the DVD part breaks it is cheaper to replace a stand alont than repair more often than not.

because I will use it for OTA. If in the future I need more it will more than likely be a STB from the cable company. I like the idea of one less remote one less box.

I only get cable TV for football season, the rest of the time its just a bunch of junk that if you have cable for 6 months out of the year you've seen everything at least tiwice. Cable to me is way too much money for what it offers $40.00 a month so that I can watch twice as many ads than on network TV. I've always said they should pay me to have cable for as many commercials as they run.

Have you ever tried to watch a move on the USA, TNN(spike), TBS etc.? Come on seven minutes of show five minutes of commercials.

Sorry for the vent.

The only "live" programmes I've watched in over 25 years are Movies and PBS, which don't have commercials.

The only exception is the occasional "special" HD programme, and that will end in a few months when I get my HDDVR, fingers crossed.
