I'm just starting to research the best TV to replace my Sony 36" VEGA. I've started with looking for a HDTV Projection type. I've seen the new DVI sets which looked great until I heard that there is a rapid value rate on the Lamp in them that runs ~ $200 to replace (aftrer about 300 hours??)

I've also read an article that talks about waiting until later in the year to get a set with features mentioned in the Subject line. Are there sets available now that has those features?

What the concenus on waiting or buying now? The Sony has be great but my layout creates a problem The Builder had a recesed areae above the Fireplace in the famiy, which creates an awkward viewing angle. Plus this set is extremely heavy - over 300# if my memory is correct. (It took three guys straining to get it into the location!)

Any info or advise would be much appreciated!

Regards, Bill

I assume you mean DLP tv (not DVI). Watch those acronyms. Read the FAQs, starting with:

"Types of HDTV" and work your way down.

Mike is correct, the lamps have an average life of between 5000 and 8000 hours.

They are easily replacable and can even be done so by a consumer:

43" DLP Bulb, cost $279.55:
