Not CD, DVDs. Look at someplace like Amazon (http://www.amazon.com) for the "Avia" or "Video Essentials" DVDs. (I personally prefer Avia). These DVDs will nto set anything on your set, but they will show you how you can properly calibrate your set. I, and many others on these boards, HIGHLY reccomend you get one of these DVDs use them to calibrate you set at least once every 6 months. They should help to increase the life of your set as well as your enjoyment of your home theater, as these disks will also help you calibrate your audio system as well.

I have used Video Essentials and Avia. I bought the Avia disc from Amazon. VE is easier to use for the beginner but the Avia disc had better results.
Both can be overwhelming till your finished adjusting but the results are worth it.

Is adjustment helpful on a 32" direct view HDTV monitor?

Absolutely, The Discs are great for adjusting contrast, brightness, color and tint. I even used them on my old 20 inch bedroom TV.

I have found that when you first calibrate your set with Avia or VE, you will probably feel that the picture is too dark. Most people are used to the factory settings of sharpness, contrast, and brightness all set to max. This washes out the picture.

When you calibrate, yes the picture will be "darker" but the colors will have better saturation, and you will be able to see more detail. For some, it takes some getting used to, just give it a few weeks, then you will really notice the difference.

A side effect would be when you go to a friends house and you are watching their tv, you will want to turn the contrast way down.
