I've been looking at getting this receiver to go with my Toshiba 50H72, but a post that I saw on eBay today raised this question for me.
The person selling the receiver on eBay said he was not able to get it to work with OTA HDTV and that Toshiba told him he would have to have a DirecTV card in order for anything to work on this receiver.
Is this true?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You might keep all the questions in the same thread, helps keep everything together.
Mine came with the 'card'. I never tried it with the card out of the unit. The card is for Direct TV, its possible the STB needs the card to work, seems strange it would be needed for OTA. I'm getting mine back soon, a friend borrowed it to watch Monday Night Football, two mondays ago :(.
I can let you know when I get it back unless someone else can give you an answer before then. (tonight or tomorrow night)

Ok, I have my Toshiba DST-3000 back. I removed the DTV card and powered it up. The OTA receiver is working just fine without the card in it. Many possibilities, two are: It is defective or he didn't know how to set it up.
One thing I found when I was first setting it up was, I hooked up the STB to my RPTV with only the component cables, I had no video. I started to have second thoughts about buying a refirb unit until I hooked up a composite cable and got video, then when I switched the STB to 1080i, all was well. Composite cable now removed.
I'll be glad to help all I can. Unless you get a killer deal on the DST-3000 and all you need is OTA, look at some newer technology. Unless you can get one for < $250. I'd certainly be cautious of the one you mentioned in your post, it could have a problem. In that case 'free' would be a bad deal.
I have no complaints about the OTA part of the STB, but I don't have experience with newer units. I get good HD pictures and DD5.1 sound (when available). I can't say about the DTV part as I don't use it.
Good to have HDTV back :) Soon the PVR-921 and Dish HD! The second thing I'll do is hook my OTA antenna to it.
