Cablevision's Rainbow DBS to Introduce World's First Comprehensive HDTV Service on October 15
Ahhhhh Things are heating up.......the race is on again.

The new satellite service is designed to meet the emerging demand for high-definition programming from a rapidly growing base of HDTV owners, by offering as many as 39 HD channels, including an exclusive VOOM package of 21 HD channels from Rainbow Media. To date, rival U.S. satellite and cable services have offered no more than seven syndicated HDTV channels. In addition, as many as 88 of today's most popular cable channels will be provided in standard-definition format, along with local digital over-the-air programming.

This one really puzzles me. I visited the VOOM website, and it looks like they'll be offering a lot more in HD than Cablevision does with IO.

It just makes me think they want to canibilize their own customer base IF they don't keep parity with HD channels on both systems.

If it wasn't for the $750 up-front cost (for the antenna, box and installation) - I'd be tempted to give it a try, although the full channel lineup doesn't compare to the wired Cablevision service.

Considering signing on - love to have more HDTV than currently get with Cablevision, but looks like they do not offer HBO. (Not to mention other normal cable/sat standards.) What gives?
