TMN-HD is free to anyone who subscribes to TMN and has a "digital HD" terminal. (rented or purchased at Rogers, and purchased for BEV)
TMN movie schedule is a a joke. The majority of features are second run films or original programming from HBO.
Why can they not show the more popular HD films that are being exhibited by other American networks. Are they refusing to pay the royalities?
If they want to keep Canadians watchings their films they will have to provide better entertainment value.
They are one of the reasons that Canadians are turning to the Gray Market.
They will probably blame their programming on the CRTC but what they really need is some good competition this certainly stimulates the pay per view channels in the US
Considering our market is 1/10th the size of the US, TMN does a pretty good job in SD and HD. There are 9 new HD movies on TMN-HD this month.
Granted, we don't have the selection that HBO does, but our cost is not as high and TMN doesn't have the "factor-of-10-times" revenue stream that HBO does.
Also realize that HBO shows quite a number of 4:3 upconverts, so all those movies you see listed on HBO are not true HD.
If you were willing to pay $100/month instead of around $10, this would make up for the lack of "scale" and I'm sure TMN would probably be able to beat HBO's offering.
57 U We have 1/10 the size all the more reason to have quality programming. Because there is no comptetition of any type TMN can provide what ever level of service suits them. Their service is meager and inadequate.Look at their December programming and two of the films Seabiscuit and Swat have been around for a long time. Not only is HBO available Starz,Max and Showtime are all HD south of the borderpotentailly it would be woth if the CRTC would allow it
With more and more American stations providing HDTV TNT being the lastest and TCM is set to go HD.There is some speculation that TCM will come to Canada it is not clear whether it will be HD
I believe you will agree with me there is definative need for improvement, when you consider it is owned by one of the largest entertainment groups in Canada.
Please don't think I'm trying to start an argument, but I actually like the choice of movies on TMN (SD & HD). I'm not very fond of the "blockbuster" movies, so I like to see the varied selection that TMN offers - like the foreign language films and the Canadian films, etc.
57u I do not think you are starting an argument. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on movies and certainly TMN has movies that are not blockbuster but more off stream. I agree with that concept but why can they not give me the more popular movies on an other channel. I believe it boils down to money.
