I bought a $50 HDMI - DVI cable from a store and it works fine for my PS3. I have that connected to the Digital In of my TV and i have the fiber optical cable going the receiver.

I cant justify $50 for a cable but the curiousity was getting to me and I had to see if t works. I plan on returning it.

My previous experience with an HDMI cable and HDMI to adapter from my cable box to my TV (with the DVI) didnt look so great, the colors were too bright or washed. I initially thought maybe the TV needed to be recalibrated but I watched the movie preview on the Skate 2 game and it looks significantly better than the cable box did with that connection. I am not sure if it is the cable box or the adapter.

*** It has been mentioned that I have an older cable box and I am going to have it updated. I am not sure if that will help.

I dont know when I will be upgrading my tv or receiver but I am definately going to buy an HDMI to DVI cable online. In the process I was considering buying a couple HDMI cables when I order so that I have them.

I have a couple questions

1) I see monoprice.com and cables for less mentioned. Is there another company I should consider or a preference on the cable vendors?

2) I dont know if it matters with the DVI connection but I read that there are differnet HDMI standards (1.3). I imagine that has to do with the equipment but do I need to be concerned with it when I buy the cable.

Thanks
Bill

monoprice cable will be fine. If converting HDMI to DVI... no concerns with 1.3

Thanks,

WIll there be any noticeable difference in these 2 cables?

HDMI DVI Cable 28AWG - 6ft w/Ferrite Cores (Gold Plated)

HDMI DVI cable CL2 Rated (For In-Wall Installation) (24AWG) w/net jacket- 6ft (Gold Plated)

The thing is I certainly dont want spend $3 when i should spend $7 but I dont want to spend the extra money if it doesnt make sense.

HDMI DVI Cable 28AWG - 6ft w/Ferrite Cores (Gold Plated) will be just fine. I have the same thing and it works fine w/no issues at all. Very good quality cable/connectors.

As indicated above, there will be no difference, especially at 6' distance. At 25', the gauge of the cable begins to matter. See the following post on the topic.
