ok im new to HDTV. im looking to buy in 1-2mos and want RearProj bc of size/cost trade off. ive checked cnet.com for reviews, but know of few other sites that are both comprehensive and reliable...
top of current list sonykp51w510, also looking at mits, hitachi. have NO confidence in what ive heard at BB, CC, etc.
would appreciate any insight into specific sets or sites. also would like to avoid buyers remorse....
Well, you've certainly come to the right site.
Start by reading the FAQs:
- Types of HDTV
- How large an HDTV to buy
- Etc.
Once you've narrowed down your search a bit, we'd be pleased to comment on specific TVs.
Once you have specific TVs in mind, putting the brand and model number into your favourite search engine, also typically provides access to reviews, etc.

here are the current top three and if anyone can tell me the +/- of these sets, itd be appreciated.
i plan on dig cable, HDTV box from insight cable company, have panasonic prog scan dvd-s35 and play a good deal of ps2. also any specifics to look for in a 'service plan?" 4 years for $400+ seems a little steep.
hitachi 51F500
hitachi 51S500
sony KP51WS510
thanks again.

Since Sony have not really excelled at CRT-Based RPTVs, I'd go with the S500.

ok, this isnt the first time ive seen such a comment (made by you) on this board. can you elaborate into why sony 'hasnt excelled?' im just trying to figure all this out...on cnet.com the new hitachi s500 received VERY HIGH marks, so maybe theres a trend.
also any specifics of PS2 problems with playing through the hitachi?
many thanks.
cm
Sony make some excellent Direct View TVs. That's what they're best at. CRT-based RPTVs are not their forté, although they make some nice LCD-based RPTVs.
Sony had some flicker problems for a while, which may now be resolved.
Hitachi have had consistently high ratings/reviews in almost all areas.
Hitachi have the highest surveyed reliability.
Can't comment on the PS2.
I don't normally comment on "which is better, or which is the best" TV, but in your case you asked for an opinion on some specific models and I thought I could indicate my preference. I felt pretty comfortable doing so, since Toshiba, Mits, Panny, etc were not mentioned, in which case I would have "begged off".

thanks, ive been deep into the hitachi forum archives and see quite a lot of good, but the recent avguide.com editors choice goes to both the sony 46" 500 and 51" 510 series...
the deal is $1599 at CC for either the sony 51"510 or the HIT51F500
thats the final decision....and times running out.
augh, the agony of technology!
