DOES ANYONE HAVE ONE OF THESE CONNECTED TO A MYHD HDTV CARD. I CANNOT PLAY BACK ANY OF THE MYHD HDTV RECORDINGS ON DVHS TAPE FROM THE JVC TO THE FIREWIRE AND USING THE TAPE INPUT SETTING ON THE MYHD.
FROM THE MYHD, I CAN CONTROL THE JVC AND RECORD TO DVHS TAPE. HOWEVER, I CANNOT PLAYBACK THE DVHS TAPE TO MYHD USING MY COMPUTER'S FIREWIRE CONNECTION.
IS THE FIREWIRE CONNECTION ON THE JVC ONLY FOR HDTV SIGNAL AND CONTROL INPUT OR SHOULD IT BE ABLE TO SEND THE HDTV RECORDED DATA BACK TO THE MYHD USING THE COMPUTER'S FIREWIRE. ANY IDEAS? THANKS!

I have bought and connected these units together in the last several weeks using a Sony Vaio PCV-RX670 PC. After installing the JVC driver in Windows XP (home edition), the recording and playback seems to work very well, although I have had several instances where the computer locked up and I had to do a hard re-boot. My computer will usually lock up if I try to play a D-VHS recorded by my JVC satellite recorder to my MP-120. This may not help you out much, but I have had pretty good luck transferring data both ways between the JVC deck and the MP-120 via IEEE-1394. Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is to be sure you are using the latest device drivers for the MP-120 (look at the websites selling the MP-120) and Windows XP.

Good luck

Is it possible that there are now "flags" on the D-VHS that will not allow what you are trying to do. The gist of copyright laws can be "condensed" into the phrase "it's illegal to make a copy of a copy". Since the item in the D-VHS is likely a "copy" (as opposed to an original movie for example), the JVC may "disable" output on firewire?

I also thought that the firewire connection on the D-VHS decks was an "input" only? (I thought output of HD was via component video only) I don't own one of these so I'm only speaking from reading the specs.

The firewire connection on the HM-DH30000U has bi-directional operation for both the digital bitstream and the tape transport controls. When I record or playback an HD program with the MDP-120, all data transfer and tape deck controls are done with the MyHD software on the computer. The only cable attached to the computer is the firewire. My satellite D-VHS recorder is the JVC HM-DSR1000U which is integrated with the satellite receiver and has no firewire connection at all. The HM-DH30000U will playback these tapes in analog, but I don't know if they are compatible with the firewire. I suspect the MyHD software may have a few bugs since I have experienced a couple of computer lock-ups while just changing broadcast viewing options when no record or playback devices were being used. Since I am new to this whole HD thing, the only thing I do know about the broadcast flags is that we will be learning about what we can't do.

Thanks
