View Full Version : HDTV Recommendation - Sony vs Hitachi
I'm having a hard time deciding what to buy. I think I have it narrowed down to the following:
Sony KF50WE610
Hitachi 50V500
I also want to add a home theater system. Since the Sony and Hitachi are the same price and there were things I liked about each one, I'm not sure which one would be the best choice.
Any opinions, suggestions, experiences would be welcome. I can't believe how much research I've had to do for this purchase and I still can't make up my mind.

I purchased a Hitachi 51" last year and am completely satisfied with it. When I was looking at sets I felt the PQ was superior to the Sonys I looked at. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though. Take your time and grab what grabs you. Good luck.:D

Without a doubt Hitatchi is the way to go! Sony's picture seemed much softer where Hitatchi's was razor sharp. Color was a lot better on the Hitatchi in my opinion too!

Rose, you and I are on the same boat. And it hasn't docked yet. It doesn't help, in my case, that retailers have both of these side by side. It would if there were big differences but there are not. From what I gather they are dead even. While design is in the eye of the beholder, the Hitachi is more stylish. Owners claim that black levels, sharpness, color, and the regular cable look better on the Hitachi. But the Hitachi also has less imputs than the Sony, and that can be an issue if you are going to build a full home theater. I have seen both of these sets and different PQ and based on set-up they go back and forth. I saw a satellite feed to the Hitachi and it was amazing. Some say SD is better on the Sony. Which is what you should ask yourself, are you going to be watching more HD material? I really think they are both great sets, and it may just come down to preference. You will get 50/50 followers on each. If you want to get the best for your, buy whichever you are leaning towards. Try it out, if after 30 days, what most stores give, you are not 100% with it, exchange it for the other of your choices. If it helps out even after all said I am going with the GWIII. ;)

If you are building a Home Theatre, the inputs may not matter because you may run "everything" (except DVI) through an appropriate A/V receiver.
I think some of the comments above came from people familiar with, or using, CRT-based RPTVs, yet the two you are comparing are LCD-based.

Get the Mitsubishi 55" 's
Well, I finally made up my mind. Got the Hitatchi. It just arrived a few hours ago. I love the way it looks. The picture quality is great. Now, we need to research a home theater system and we'll be set! Thanks for the input. If anyone has suggestions regarding home theater, I'd appreciate any and all opinions.
Rose,

You don't have to spend major bucks for a good receiver and speakers. There are complete systems for $500 - $1000 to get you started (receiver and speakers - includes a sub). If have have major dollars to invest, as I said before we can help you there too :)
