Question about the PVR 921.

Will I be able to record OTA High Def signals to the PVR???

I have a Mits 55'' w/ IEEE connection and I understand that the 921 has this also.

Will this work???

The DVR921, as its now called, can record both satellites in HD or SD or one satellite and the OTA in SD or HD. We had heard that it would record three at once but on the last Technical Chat they said only two at once. Has nothing to do with the TV you have.

The firewire may not be active on the initial release but you would be using the DVI or component outputs for your TV anyway. We are still expecting the release prior to the end of the year. If you hear anything new please post for the rest of us.

Thanks,
Lee

Here's a link that looks to be very factual in the specs etc. Still no firm date or word of any deals for existing customers. We should hear about those in the next Charlie Chat.

I check Dish's site but there is nothing new there. Still trying to sell us a 6000 receiver :)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using component inputs to your TV. That's all I've been using for a year.

LeeS:
Reading your post again... do you mean to say that I should be able to record on the DVR921 OTA signals w/ component cables???

Since I don't have DVI, I sure hope that's the case!!!

No, you cannot record using component cables.

The PVR is an integrated unit and records information supplied by the internal tuners.

At this time, there is no way to record using component video cables on a "consumer device".

All stand-alone HD recorders work via firewire, unfortunately the only STB that have firewire at this time are OTA STBs.

Recording with the 921 has absolutely nothing to do with your TV :). It records off the satellites and/or the OTA receiver. It will play back HD to your TV via the DVI or the Component connections. If your set is 'HD Capable' and has an HD component input you will be good to go.

57U,

Thanks, I misunderstood his question?
Will I be able to record OTA High Def signals to the PVR???

b727guru,

Sorry, I was thinking of the playback only, that is all I'm really interested in. What would you be wanting to record in HD that didn't come off the Sat or OTA? Just for my info.

Thanks,
Lee

I want to be able to record from the local stations here in Atlanta. I don't intend to subscribe immediately to Dish HP pkg and currently I'm enjoying the Hi Def programming OTA here.

I growing inpatient w/ Dishnetwork, this DVR was supposed to be out back in the summer, then in the fall, now it looks like it will be in December....

Nobody at Dish knows anything about it!!!

Thanks for your help.

If you want to record OTA stations and you have a STB with firewire out, you could check out the JVC D-VHS recorder for about $400. It's an HD VCR which is a "step backward" in many minds, but it's an option.

Oh, they know, they're just not talking. Many of us here have been talking about this unit for at least the year I've been a member.

Dish's retailers are posting adds, that is where we are getting most of our info. Like the link I posted earlier.

I believe the 921 will be worth the wait. Expensive, but worth the wait. Nothing else on the market like it, yet. But that will change I'm sure.

Just do a forum search for PVR921. Lots of discussion.

Surfing around I've noticed that the Dish Retailers on the web have moved the DVR-921 release date to December 1, 2003.

No mention of the 921 on Dish's website, although they do have a SuperDish page, but no information.
