As far as DVI being the only output able to playback HD recorded through your DVR.....I haven't looked at the specs yet, but there is no chance that this is true. It makes no sense.
I searched for the 6208 on google and did find some stuff on motorola's website but not the manual yet.
Our launch date for the dvr / HD box is December 1st (that's unofficial, I believe, for a little wiggle room). One benefit of working for the cable co, I'll be bringing one home the day they arrive for 'testing' purposes. Heh heh.

Won't it just play back HD programms from its hardrive back to set via component cables just the same as I watch hd cable channels via same cables?
whats the dif if source is from HD cable show or HD recorded shows from its HDD?

If you want to see how a DVR works, see the following demo. The 6208 should be similar and an HDDVR does the same stuff...

The demo may take a few seconds to load - be patient. The demo lasts about 5 minutes.

eliminate the need for two converters in your home for HDTV customers. It
will cost $12.95 instead of the $9.95 that you currently pay for the
HDTV-digital boxes you currently have now.
Going to be 12.95 for new motorola box

3.00 per month for a DVR sounds good to me. It will be nice to free up some space with only one cable box.
Thanks for the info.

INSIGHT COMMUNICATIONS TO LAUNCH ENHANCED VIDEO SERVICES
DVR and HD among key services delivered on one set-top box for retail holiday season
New York, NY (October 22, 2003)— Insight Communications (Nasdaq: ICCI) will launch enhanced video services to its Insight Digital customers, including the ongoing delivery of HDTV and Insight's new digital video recorder (DVR) service on a single box solution, beginning in December. Michael S. Willner, President and CEO, made the announcement.
"The introduction and integration of these advanced services presents an array of exciting enhancements and future opportunities on our pioneering Insight Digital service," said Willner. "As DVR and HDTV demand continue to rise, this solution will deliver even further value to our interactive platform."
In addition to HDTV and DVR services, the advanced platform will include enhanced gaming capabilities and more dynamic graphics, as well as additional capacity for future applications. Using the DCT6208, Motorola's next-generation advanced digital set-top, Insight's HDTV and DVR services will also be integrated with On Demand TV, Insight's current VOD service, and will be supported by TV Guide Interactive, marking the IPG's debut with Insight. The cost for the enhanced digital service will be $12.95 monthly, a $5.00 premium over the company's standard Digital Gateway Service.
Insight's DVR product will feature an 80 GB hard drive, providing up to 60 hours of standard definition and up to 10 hours of high-definition digital recording. It will be available in the following Insight systems: Anderson, Lafayette, Kokomo, Evansville, and Bloomington, Ind.; Louisville, Lexington, and Covington, Ky.; Columbus, Ohio; and Rockford, Peoria, Springfield, and Champaign/Urbana, Ill.
