Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these on how well they work ?

I believe I can simply connect my computer via an HDTV PCI Card to an HD Ready TV to receive local broadcasts (provided I have the antenna to pull in the signal).

These function the same as a regular HDTV tuner box correct (like the Samsung or Zenith) ?

I have an Athlon XP 1900 with 512 MB RAM (which I belive is plenty to run something like this). Runnnig WinXP Pro.

I'm now using a Hipix, it 's working very well.
I was using an Accessdtv card for a while which worked nice with Win98, but not so good with WinXP.
The pic quality is the same as a tuner [STB] box. There may be some different options available.
Commercial skip is a keystroke [>] away. :)
These things are a godsend, for me there's no alternative for recording.
Have you been to AVS forum?
They discuss these a lot there.

Where can you get the Hipix from and what price should I expect? I saw the Hipix as highly recommended somewhere on the web...

Also, what is the AVS forum ? Is that on this site ?

Thanks.

Sorry, I don't know if the Hipix is still available. There were some support issues going on.

There's a newer model out called Myhd:

AVS has a forum specifically for home theater PC's:

Hey, don't forget to come back here and tell us what you did. ;)

Don't worry too much about system requirements, 400 Mhz seems to be good enough for these cards. It worked for me. But check your motherboard 3.3v requirements as they suggest.

Edit: Accessdtv update:

Thanks for the reply.

It looks like it's between the myHD card and the Access DTV card - these are the only 2 that are out there that seem to stand out...

Thanks also for the link to the AVS forum- there is a lot of info out there - almost too much... It just goes to show ya how superior this website is over that one (the AVS forum seems a little cluttered and less organized...)....

Any one else have any suggestions on which card to buy ?
