Being new to this site and also not having one chromosone that understands technical issues I will attempt to understand your answers.
My current TV is a Panasonic CT-32hx41. It is not wide screen which at the time did not matter to me. Now Comcast comes along and I rent an HD box and I fall in love with HD. The bars on top and bottom within a 32 inch setting takes some of the enjoyment away.

Now comes the question!
I would like to replace the 32inch with a good wide screen. Maybe a 40,46 etc... We have a small living room so the distance from sitting and watching is about 10 feet.
I looked at Ultimate Electronics and the ones the salesman suggest are the LCD, rear projection. (Sony} They run between 2-3000.00 dollars. I have heard good things on this board about DLP but all the store folks say save your money on the DLP and go with LCD rear projection. I would not like to spend a fortune on Plasma.
Another question besides wanting your opionions on which type of system is, should I wait a few years and live with the 32 if the technology keeps improving and prices keep falling.

If you can answer both parts I would be greatful. Dennis

Read over the faq section, especially the part comparing the advantages/disadvantages of each type of display.

That section was probably the most important factor that lead me to decide on a dlp set. I've had the set for a little over a month now, and I'm still liking it more and more at time goes on.

Only my opinion, but I love the idea of no burn in with a dlp. I hate the idea of watching a stretched (distorted) SD picture to prevent burn-in. I still watch more SD tv than anything else, so that's an important consideration for me. YMMV...

I also don't think there's a better picture than a dlp, but that's another subjective matter.

You can wait for a few years, and yes, the technology will be better, and prices will be lower. But the same question will still be valid in a few years. A few years after THAT point, technology will be even better, and prices will be even lower. So there will always be reasons to keep waiting. Dive in now if you think today's technology is worth the $$.

Dennis:
I'll give you a totally different opinion regarding DLP technology than that offered by "Hopeless".

Sure it performs well, but I would not buy this technology until another half-dozen years or so have passed and proven (or disproven) its reliability over the long term. In case you didn;t know, DLP has a mechanical aspect to it, and any device which incorporates moving parts is always likely to have more problems than strictly electronic devices - without any moving parts.

So, I would recommend either an LCD-based or a CRT-based RPTV as being the best choice at this point in time, depending upon just what you will be watching most of the time. Also, at a viewing distance of 10ft. a 50" set is not too large.

Hope this helps you

Thanks for the advice. I am leaning towards the LCD. Dennis
