View Full Version : Power Loss / Screen Shift - Mits 55511

Well I been trying to find similar issues tonight but no luck.

Here it goes, I have a Mits 55511. I purchased about 3 months ago. Had a screen shifting (geometry) issue, replaced, same issue.

The problem happens when there is a complete power loss to the set (i.e. like turning off power, or surge protector). Once their is a complete power loss, the Mits 55511 will reset (i.e. blinking power light). Once reset is complete, and the unit is turned on, the whole screen is shifted to the left about 2-3 inches of center.

It will stay like this for about 24 hours and then shift back to the right. My old set shifted to the left 2-3 inches and then shifted over the right 1-2 inches further than center.

I am wondering if anyone has heard of this. I have component inputs from my DirectTV and DVD. I have Sony audio components.
Are the speakers that are placed next to the unit, center on top, an issue? Or this something internal? I like the Mits picture quality, especially HD, but may have to go to Sony. Help.....

At least I bought an extended warranty even though this is covered under the 1 year. Back to calling a million people again to get this issue resolved.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

Brian

Here is the link to the Mitsubishi HDTV section:

You might look through the thread titles and see.

You can also do a search through the forum.

Speaker placement with a RPTV is not usually an issue.

Sorry I can't be more help, not a Mits owner, but there are lots of members with them. You should get a response soon.

Good Luck,
Lee

I can see why you are having no luck. Did a forum search for Mits AND Screen AND Shift. Three hits (including your post) but nothing that matches your problem. No luck on various Google searches either.

Forum search for Mits AND Geometry AND Shift brought up this thread, not the same problem but:

What are the service people telling you about this problem?

The Mits Cust Serv people stated that it was a geometry problem and to have service come and take a look.

Scheduled a service call with a local authorized service center. After they finally came out, they said they had to order the spec to re-align. Didn't even bother to wait.

Went back to Fry's Electronics, and they said they would replace it. They replaced the unit, even though it was open box, last one available (year-end close out). I wasn't too happy about this, but it fixed the problem.

As I write though, maybe this unit already had the problem. You will not notice a problem until the power is completely disconected. Since they replaced, I haven't turned off the power.

The interesting thing is that the unit will reset after 12-24 hours.

Also, color flucuations are common during this 12-24 hour reset.

I am planning to contact Mits today to talk to them about, and again contact Fry's about replacement. I will probably get a different TV though. Any recommendations.... I like the HD receiver built in, but I will have to admit it is a pain to get a signal.

I am about 15-20 miles from local attena source. Any recommendations, tried a few internal but no luck. Right now, I get really good signals just placing rabit ears on the roof. Probably install an external but I have to get the TV fixed first.

I might also just pick up HD thru Direct TV, but I have to get a different dish, pay for the service, and pick up a HD receiver.

Thanks for your input.

Brian

Here's the link to the FAQ about antennas:

You should look through the other FAQs.

You have Dish Network now? There are some major changes coming out this month. New SuperDish. New HD programming. New HD receivers. You might want to look through the threads in this forum:

http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=414

I've been with Dish for 5 years and have spent the last year waiting for them to get their HD act together. It is very close.

I have a Toshiba RPTV and enjoy it thoroughly. I've had no issues. But there are some who have had. Hitachi is a great set, I think an upgrade from the Toshiba. I find it strange that both your Mits have had the same problem. Doesn't sound common or we would have found something in the forum or on the web about it.

Good Luck with your choice. Maybe Mits will give you a new unit.

I think it has something to do with the component inputs from the Direct TV box. Yesterday, it was still doing the same thing, but I was able to get it reset in time for NFL games.

After I turned on the TV and Direct TV box, it was the same. But when I turned off the TV and the Direct TV, and then turned on the TV until it showed a blue screen (startup, no signal) and then turned on the DirectTV box, it was back in center again.

At least this TV doesn't shift back over to the right of center after reset.

My friend has the same exact TV 55511 but doesn't have component inputs yet. He hasn't had a problem.

I plan on still contacting Mits and Fry's. Does anyone else who owns a Mits have components inputs from DirectTV. If so, what happens when you completely remove power (i.e. unplug from wall) and then plug back in.

Thanks again for the info, Lee.

Have you tried switching inputs? It seems that the TV is fine but the STB may be a problem. Since it is not a HD box try using a S-vid input. You say you have no problems with the internal HD tuner?
