Guys I have been wanting the Sony KF-50XBR800 for some time now. And to be honest I am not 100% ready to buy now but like I posted a few weeks ago, I went to one store and they don't have it and went to a local chain tonight and they told me it's discountinued. CC still has it online. Best Buy does not. Ok details are: the local chain has only one left. A store DEMO. Exterior shape is good. The price is subtancially reduced; I'd get the 4 year warranty. But should I buy it not being 100% ready for it or pass it up forever?

I personally would try to hold off...

I would be afraid to buy the floor model on something like this..
(It is kinda a big investment..) Just my opinon...

Remember, the floor model probably has been being displayed in "Torch Mode" for the past several months.

It probably has been left on weekend after weekend when the store was closed because someone forgot to turn it off.

Blasted at full volume hour after hour....

Children running through the store putting their fingers (along with the McDonald French Fries they just ate) all over the screen.

Sales person mashing the remote buttons. (If they could find the remote that came w/ the unit)

and who knows what else...

Again.. this is just my opinon.. But I would really think carefully before pulling the trigger on a floor model...

Granted, you do get a warrenty, but It kinda sux to have the monster sitting in your living room staring at you & you starring at it, and it doesn't work.. and won't work until the service guy can get out to fix it.... (Next Thursday between 9am and 3pm...)

Anyone else have a thought???

Good luck!

I am still kicking myself for saving a few(maby) and getting a closeout, do not forget that that model may be discontinued, but the next one will have more bells and whissels. I would wait untill you are ready.

In most things, I like open boxes and demos, but this is a big purchace, get the best you can when you can.

just my $.02 worth

Yeah I've been thinking about it and perhaps I was a little rush about it. Seeing the whole picture, there is always better. And since now I am not ready perhaps a few more months will enable me to get a 60" instead at the right time.

In case you are wondering what the deal is. It's $1300 of the top. It has all the paperwork, remote. PLUS and this was the deal sealer they are throwing in the factory specfic stand for free. The 4 year warranty is $350. I'd be picking it up, no shipping. Other than that just tax and I was out the door.

Oh well on the Grand scale of things it's just money...

Thanx for your comments.

If your not set on Sony try www.uecweb.com
All refurbs-which are much better than DEMO's
Add about 350 to all the prices for a warranty.

Having worked in video at Best Buy for a year I can tell you that anyone purchasing a demo unit being clearanced out is purchasing a set that has been running for 12 hours a day for a year. Not only that you might as well assume the set has been in torch mode that entire time. I routinely cranked down the contrast and other settings on many of the sets, but someone always comes behind your back and cranks everything back up again and I'm not talking about customers either. It would take me 4 years to put the kind of wear and tear one of these demo units gets in a year. For a few hundred dollars more a new set is the only way to go in my opinion. Years ago I postponed my first RPTV purchase for a few months, so I could pick up the set I really wanted. It was more than worth the delayed gratification I must tell you.
