I am getting a Hitachi Widescreen (51S500 or 57S500) and have an older Panasonic DVD player that I like, but it is not progressive scan. From what I understand the TV can upconvert the signal to progressive scan - will I benefit from getting a PS DVD player?

Thanks in advance,

The answer is "maybe". Many people do get a better picture with PS, while a lot of people have reported little or no difference. If your current player is a good one, you may belong to the latter group. If you're buying a new player, buy it where you can take it back if you don't see a difference.

You can also play with the settings. The Hitachi will allow you to use 540P or 1080i. The 1080i setting may actually be better since it's accepting and displaying an interlaced signal, not having to go through a "deinterlacing" step.
