I have my PS2 hooked up to my Hitachi Tantus 55" HDTV and I am watching DVD's using my PS2 but the picture is not what it should be, I'm very disapointed and don't know what to do. Do I need a progressive scan DVD player to get a better picture? If so what is the best one for my TV? Thanks

A new DVD player will likely provide a better picture. Almost all new players are PS. How much do you want to spend?

It's also going to depend on the connection, or type of cable, you use between the television and DVD player (or PS2). Your PS2 came with one of the most low performing type of connections, so unless you purchased an S-video or Component video cable for that console you're REALLY holding it's potential back.

Also too, even if you were to use the PS2 with some Component video cables, you probably can't expect the best picture quality from that sort of DVD player. The more features and options they cram into that PS2 the more sacrifices they are going to make in performance of the secondary features; like the ability to play DVD's.

As 57U said, though, progressive scan DVD players have come down quite a bit in cost, so I wouldn't expect it to set you back much.

I don't mind spending some money for a good DVD player, So which one should I go with? Thanks

Any player that costs more than $149 should be better than the PS2.

samsung
toshiba
panasonic
denon
pioneer
etc...
