I'm ready to purchase a KP65WV700 but am wondering about new LCD sets (#0XBR950).
What are the pros and cons of standard rear projection vs LCD.
My parameters are:
Lighting is not an issue.
Seating would be pretty close to the set (6-8 ft)
Sources will be DirecTV, Progressive DVD, with occasional VHS and long distance OTA non HD local channels.
I would also be hooking up a PS2 and maybe an Xbox.
I've heard you can get the most screen size for your buck with rear projection but gaming is frowned upon.
LCD fans say that gaming is not a problem, but non-digital sources look terrible.
Anyone?

man ill be honest with you IMO stay away from sonys CRT RPTV line and get the LCD XBR950... ill tell ya what those LCD's sony makes are nice... I just think youll like the LCD better and itll take up less space.....
If you haven't done so already, check out the FAQ on "Types of HDTV". There are several major pros/cons listed for each type of TV

Thanks,
I thought I went through most of the FAQ's but I missed this one.
Everthing I read steers me toward the new LCD's.
It seems the only disadvantage of the LCD that might apply to me is the "doesn't display blacks well" disadvantage.
Is this very evident to the average viewer or only to someone who is looking for it?
BTW, I'm moving up from a 27" Sony, Dolby Pro Logic Receiver, and a PS2 as my DVD player system. (I'm a little behind)
The black level issue with LCDs is not that noticeable when you only look at the LCD TV, however, if you put it beside a CRT-based TV, the difference in black level is quite noticeable.
I find it looks more like a purply dark grey, but the LCD has other advantages, just like any TV type. You have to weigh the advantages, disadvantages for yourself.

Sto22,
I find that the black levels on my 60XBR800 LCD set are great ... I never notice any issues with them. Obviously, they are not "true" black like you would get in a CRT as already stated. But they are plenty dark ... I absolutley love my set. :D

P.S. If you are going to use a PS2 on the system, make sure you buy new cables for it. The difference is quite noticeable.

Component cables? or just higher quality AV cables.
While we're on the subject, there is some debate in the other forums about the PS2's output.
DVD's are only 480i
Some games are 480p
I don't understand how the unit could send a progressive signal for games but not DVD's.

I bought component cables for my PS2 ... and the picture was instanly better. Not sure about the output of the PS2 for movies, as I never used it for that ... but it is definately an interesting question about the outputs.
