View Full Version : Need Help Please
Hi,
I was hoping someone can help me. I just purchased a Hitachi 57F500 with the Hughes E86 receiver. I have the receiver connected to input 1 on the TV with component cables. I can't help but notice that the HD channels (i.e. ESPN HD) look stretched although the TV is set in "16:9 standard" mode from the "Aspect" selection on the remote. I know that HD channels are broadcast in widescreen format so they shouldn't look stretched, right? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

ESPN HD channel is not in High Defintion all the time, only certain games. So the reason it looks stretched is it is probaby a Non HD show. How do the other HD channels look ?
Mike,
There was an NBA game on ESPN last night. Shouldn't that have been in HD?
The HBO HD channel looked stretched, too, when I was watching Inside the NFL.
However, the Discover HD channel looked great.
Any ideas?

I turned to that NBA game and it wasn't in HD last night. I wish they showed more HD stuff since it is called ESPN HD.
Did you change the setting on the Hughes to 16 x 9 ??

guys keep in mind that just because its HBO HD ESPN HD etc that not all there programming is going to be in HD some of it is just upconverted and stretched specially ESPN right now till they finish their HD studio in Conn. in the Spring...
I was looking for something on the Hughes and in the manual about a setting for 16:9, but didn't see it. Would you know the steps?

not sure, I have a Samsung. There should be an option somewhere in the menu. I will see if I can find out some info though.

Tom have you gone into the Hughes E86 menu and set it up correctly for your 16:9 TV??? Normally standard channels look stretched somewhat but high definition channels do not get stretched one bit and are perfect.
No, I haven't. I'm at work right now and am unable to try it.
If someone can help me with the steps, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.

I couldn't find any info out. Mess around with the menus when you get home and you will probably see it.

Tom, turn on your satellite & tv, use your remote and first hit action and then guide. Then select setup menu, after that select A/V Setup. At that area you will see screen sizes to pick. Select the 16:9 and you should be ok.
