What is the scoop on the extended warranty on LC Projection units? Cicuit City gets $599 for (4) years. They maintain that during the course of that time you will go thru (2) lamps? They also indicate that they are $200 or so a pop and require a techician to install.
Is this all sales hype and scare tactics?
The lamps depending on model run anywhere from 250 to 300 dollars. Typical lamp lasts in the neighborhood of about 8000 hours. Depending on how much viewing you do, whether you use the lamp contninously for long period of times or turn it on and off repeatedly this number can go up or down. For the average person a bulb will last anywhere from 2.5-3.5 years. The lamps are designed to be user replaceable. Now as for the 4 year warranty 599 is a bit steep. Sears sells a 5 yr service that covers all the things for 399.99.

Is continuous use less harmful to the bulb then shoter periods? Realizing of course that there are only maximum hours avaiable.
Can the bulbs be purchased online at any savings? would they be reliable?
I have just purchased a HIT 50V500 and know nothing about them execpt that they cost a lot. Other than the bulb are major items that would require having a extended warranty?
