Anyone seen or have a JVC-AV-34WP84?? I am looking into getting a 34 inch HDTV and I cannot find the JVC anywhere on display in my area to compare to Sony,Toshoba etc. Are they discontinued? Does it really matter which brand you get?
Thanks

Before you put out your hard-earned on one of the type sets you're considering, you should be made aware of the risk involved. Although CRT (picture tube) failures are rare, they can and do happen. If you should be so unlucky as to have the tube fail in one of these TVs after the 2 yr. warranty on the tube expires, the set becomes "toast" - nothing but a very expensive door-stop or boat anchor! Replacing the tube is NOT an option, for doing so would cost every bit as much as replacing the entire set with a brand new one.

You'd be way better off IMO, with an RPTV. I urge you to consider that option instead of a direct-view.

What kind of RPTV can compare with the clarity of a CRT? Besides my wife must keep the cabinet that holds the Tv so 34 inch is as big as I can go.

Consider the Sony KV34HS510, Panasonic CT34WX53, Toshiba 34HFX83, and the JVC AV34WP84 they are all incredible TV's are range $1800-2000 and $250-300 for matching stands. Don't let anyone talk you out of a CRT unless you go DLP :-)

I bought this last weekend, and so far, I love it. I still have to get a set-up DVD to configure the settings, but DVD via component cables looks great! I get HDTV service hooked up tomorrow. FYI, I got this as an open-box buy at Good Guys.

I'm also looking to buy an HDTV in the price $1000-$2500 price range. Any ideas on the JVC AV-34WP84? I don't see any reviews on it, what's the deal with 1500i?

Well, I got my HDTV service installed, and I am extremely pleased with the PQ on the JVC. I am very new to HDTV (1-week), but in my opinion, this is an excellent product. In fact, I can't think of one thing about the TV that I do not like.

If you don't mind me asking what did the set go for? And what is 1500i, I've never heard of that.

I got it at Good Guys for about $1450 as an open box buy, and that included delivery/installation. I had been looking at the Toshiba 34" widescreen, but when I saw this at this price, I went for it.

I'm not too sure about the 1500i feature. As far as I can tell, it's automatic (can't be turned off). In the TV Menu, there is a little demonstation divides the screen in two halves, comparing the 1500i vs. not having the 1500i. I can see very little difference between the two, though the 1500i side does look slightly better. I was unable to find any expert opinions on this feature as well, so that leads me to believe that it may be more of a marketing gimic rather than cutting-edge technology.

I was a little nervous about getting this TV, since there is very little info. on it, but now that I have it hooked up and running, I am an extremely happy customer.

AN ANSWER TO RESOLUTION ENHANCEMENT IS "DIGITAL IMAGE SCALING TECHNOLOGY" OR D.I.S.T. , WICH PRODUCES UNSURPASSED RESOLUTION QUALITY.AVAILABLE IN FOUR LEVELS(770P OR 480P FOR PANEL DISPLAYS, 1080I FOR ALL 74 SERIES MODELS, 1500I FOR ALL 84 AND 94 SERIES MODELS), D.I.S.T. IS AN ORIGINAL DIGITAL ALGORITHM TECHNOLOGY THAT SEAMLESSLY UP-SCALES ANY VIDEO SOURCE SUCH AS NTSC (480i ;i.e., CONVENTIONAL TERRESTRIAL BROADCAST SOURCES, DVD VIDEOS, ETC.) AND PROGRESSIVE 480p SIGNALS TO 1080 OR 1500 SCANNING LINES .WITH D.I.S.T.'S UP-CONVERSION, THE JAGGED LINES INHERENT IN THE ORIGINAL SOURCE MENTIONED ABOVE ARE DRASTICALLY REDUCED, AND VERTICAL RESOLUTION IS GREATLY ENHANCED.THE RESULT IS THE CREATION OF DYNAMIC, CRYSTAL CLEAR, CINEMA-LIKE PICTURES FROM ANY SOFTWARE.

It's a "monitor", no HD capable tuner is included. You can either:
a) subscribe to satellite (DirecTV or Dish) and buy/lease a tuner.
b) subscribe to cable and rent an HD capable tuner
c) buy an external ATSC/QAM capable tuner and use an antenna for local "over the air" (OTA) digital stations.

Hi, I also have this particular JVC, and need to know what HDMI to DVI cable I need, and an online source to buy it, also is it a DVI-I, DVI-D, or something else, and is it a female or male connection on the back of the TV ( I am currently in Thailand and cannot view the back of TV).... Also, I plan on hooking up a PS 3 to it.
Thanks, BD
