I came here looking for just this! I just got hooked up w/ digital w/ hd + hdpackage - I don't like the 2 boxes.
How is it? ...and the recording?
How is the software / interface. I'm appauled by the digital cable box's interface. Slow, sloppy, bad looking, not intuitive, etc! :(

I recorded Jay Leno it looks exactly like live TV.perfect
Software has changed for this box they are using TV GUIDE looks ok.
Now you can NOT record VOD(video on demand) not sure reason, but you can record pay per view stuff.
You can not in this model record a channel while watching another channel.Well you could split the cable coming in and watch analog while recoding anything else on 6208.
Now you can record a channel and watch a show you previous recorded. I havent tried that yet.

Thanks for the great info. I am going to call insight on the 1st to see if they can bring out the new box.
Maybe you can help me. My HDTV is 4:3. I have read the manual that you posted but am unclear about the 4:3 override setting. I was hoping to only use the DVI-HDCP connector for both the hd channels (1080i) and the sd channels(480i or 480p). Will this be possible?
Currently I use the component cables from the hd box to the tv and rg6 from the regular box to the tv.
Thank you for any help/advise.

I left the overide to default that is 480i I think and let someone correct me on hd if box receives a non hd 1080i or 720p signal it sends it as a 480i.
Now a problem my Insight first said NO dvu is not on,but now say just try it reports are it is ON.
I dont have a DVI cable looking at my local Circiut City I dont want topay 99.00 to find out.
I can find any proof as to why go DVI over COMPONENT as fas as picture quality??
If I can get a cheap or borrow a dvi cable I will post.

I am fine w/ component cables instead of DVI it does not matter either way to me.
In my current setup if a sd show come on the hd box the box upconverts to 1080i so it shows up on my tv as postage stamp and I have to switch inputs on the tv to the rg6 cable.
It would be nice if the tv sent the 1080i or 720p programs as 1080i and the sd programs as 480ior 480p so that I don't have to change tv inputs when I change channels. So is that what 4:3 override does?
Sorry for so many questions.

i will quote from manual here
4:3 override
finally, use the down arrow to select 4:3 override, by selecting 480i or 480p you are telling yhe 6208 to send STD DEFINITION programs to your tv in its original broadcast format .

I will have a DVI-D cable friday so I will post if the 6208 Dvi connector is active(someone try to explain to me why this is active via the TV guide software, would it just work when Motorola made the box os does software drive ALL connectors?)
Next if Dvi is working to see if analog channels are passed thru and IF any picture quality is there.

Thanks for the updates. I called Insight in Columbus, OH and they said it would probably be Jan. before any Columbus customers got the new box. Oh well I guess I can wait a little longer.

Insight sometimes just kills me. I can't imagine why the DVI port isn't active. Same reason serial isn't enabled their other digital boxes.

Trido-
Do the SD channels look better using the DVI/component inputs than when using the rg6/S-video inputs?

I had an appointment to have the Motorola 6208 installed at my house in Fishers, Indiana on December 22. Insight called me today to tell me that Motorola had recalled their shipments of the 6208. They are not expecting another shipment until after January 15. Have you heard anything about the problems that caused the recall? I'm pretty bummed I was really looking forward to the new unit.

I will swap mine out then.
Issue well main issue id box just freezes up and you have to unplug it. Bad thing when I unplugged it then back on may take 10 plus minutes till I can change channells.
I will post the minute I get new 6208.
Oh the freezing up they now say is a hardware problem in the box.
In my opinion there was NO was Insight up there should have even been scheduling any install. Down here they have not..
