I heard that the Sony HD100 has been discontinued, and that Sony will come out with a new model this Spring.
Is this just wishful thinking, or has anyone else hear this, too?

I havent heard about the discontinuation.., but I heard its a Piece of Crapo!
The new zenith puts it to shame supposedly. Its a good move by sony. They always come back with a top of the line on their 2nd gen stuff...

I am a Sony Specialty Retailer and I can confirm that the HD 100 is no longer. I have 5 left and when they are gone they are gone...I will be in Chicago on the 19th and hope to see the replacement at the annual Sony Show..I am discouraged to hear about the bad rap that the HD 100 has gotten as we have had no trouble with them.
Great HD Sat and Off Air...

The SONY HD100 is a dreamboat compared to the Panasonic. That is quite possible the worst HD ATSC tuner ever created.

This is true about the Sony SAT-HD100. I had one on order with OrbitSat and they emailed me to cancel my order since Sony informed them the SAT-HD100 was discontinued.

Just took by Sony SATHD100 back to Circuit City this morning. After 35 days os use, output to TV now has a rather annoying blanked area on the middle bottom of the screen regardless of input source (OTA, Cable, Satellite). Circuit City has taken unit and it is being repaired. No new units on showroom floor and Circuit City says they are no longer being manufactured by Sony. New 2nd generation units from Sony are due out in June of this year ... does anyone know about this 'new' model ?
Only other HDTV tuner on the floor at Circuit City was from RCA and it doesn't have component video output. I guess I'll just have to wait for Sony SATDH100 to be repaired.

I saw the replacement in Chicago earlier this week at the Sony Show for dealers.. It will remain basically the same but with a few changes. It will now have a DVI Port on the back to send it's HD information to a TV as well as having componet outs on the back. I must say that the marketing manager was not very convincing as to the fact that he said it would also send out 1080i out of the componet out as well as the DCDI port. This is the way sony is going to do most transfers from HD in the future (DVI)..
Price yet to be announced but it was said that it will be in line with past retail price points....Release Date if we are all lucky Nov-Dec..

I have the Sony Sat HD100 and I was chagrined to see it discontinued. I get OTA (10' attic antenna from previous owner) from all of the broadcst stations here near DC except WETA 26.1 Public Television. I also get HBO-HD and HDNet. The picture is jaw dropping on my SharpVision 9000 with 92" Stewart GrayHawk Screen. I've seen the SuperBowl, Olympics and some of the NCAAs in high def and it's looked great. They showed a lot of the ice events and the mountains during the Olympics and it was awesome.
There are three things I don't like about the Sony, and they are ergonomic:
1) Can't output S-VHS and Component at the same time, so I have to remember to toggle through output options, or my ReplayTV will not record. If there was direct access to outputs, then I could program the Pronto to go to S-VHS when I turn off the projector. Instead now I have to macro the toggles and hope it ends up at the right output - or at least serves as a reminder to set it to S-VHS.
==>> BTW my understanding is the Zenith makes you change outputs via a toggle in the back(!).
2) Have to rescan and rediscover all digital channels just to add one new channel.
3) The joystick is awful and worst than the discrete buttons that come with the non-HD Sony DirecTV remote. I always inadvertently select "enter". Also the output button in under a cover for some incomprehesible reason. (I seen these complaints in magazine reviews as well.)
I was considering the Panasonic and have tried to dig up information on it with little success. From what I've seen online it seems it have its own set of issues.
Overall I'm happy with the Sony as I get great pictures and it has not really had any operational problems.
Any more feedback on the Panasonic is appreciated.

Circuit City has had my SATHD100 unit for one week. They have now shipped it up north to Sony regional facilities. Circuit City says they need at least 3 weeks with the unit (?). First month with the Sony SATHD100 had been great, I really liked the integrated OTA (Washington DC) , Cable and DirectTV reception. I am very dissapointed that Sony is no longer manufacturing the unit and there is no near-term 2nd generation replacement in the near future.
Stay Tuned.

IMHO I avoid Circuit City at all costs because of a couple a bad experiences with returns. I got tired of standing in line and listening to people scream at the Mangers to no avail. Admittedly I have a lot of alternatives with Rockville, MD nearby. They always give me a replacement while Circuit City would make me wait for a repair.
