I installed my new dish (3 lnb) and installed a new clip on Terk OTA. I am a little confused on why I get absolutley no reception what so ever. Not even snow. The antenna comes with a Diplexer that connects the sat in and outputs sat and antenna. I connected the diplexer, connected the sat cable to the sat in of my receiver, and the antenna in to the antenna in on the receiver.

I am about 35 miles from the towers and according to the website (antenna something) I needed the yellow antenna.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I imagine you have gone over the installation and double checked everything?

Getting absolutely nothing sounds more like installation, setup or possibly a failure of a component.

You satellite signals are still getting through?

What STB are you using?

What model Terk? Is it powered?

Let us know and we can try to help.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am getting sat signals fine.

STB - Hughes DTV Model?

OTA - Terk 42

Do I need to turn off the DTV receiver to watch HDTV through the OTA? I sub to DTV HD so I do not think I would.

Thanks

Specs on the Terk say its powered from the STB, so you don't have an external power supply.

You are in the 'Yellow' zone so the antenna should do the job.

The OTA coax connects to the rear of the Hughes STB right?

You wouldn't turn off the STB for OTA. The OTA should be integrated into the satellite guide when properly setup. If you get locals from DTV ABC would be on 2 and the HD OTA would be on 2-1, 6 and 6-1 etc...

Did you RTFM for the Hughes? :) Maybe someone with a Hughes can help there or give me the model number and I'll see if I can download a manual.

With my Toshiba STB I had to set it up for an OTA antenna. Then do a channel scan. There were very specific instructions in the manual for the procedure.

I believe the model is a E86.

I could be wrong...
but I thing that if you diplex the sat/antenna signal at the antenna/dish end, you only need to run one coax into the E86.

I THINK that the E86 does not require a second diplexer at the receiver end since the diplexer is 'built-in' on the E86.

Try one coax and perform a channel scan. Who knows?

To receive OTA digital channels on the Hughes E86 you must get into the setup system menu locate the correct area and insert your zip code, it will then download a zipcode database. After the receiver downloades the database and you insert your zipcode you will be able to load the digital channels in your area into your Hughes receiver.

NOTE!!! The zip code insertion I am mentioning has nothing to do with dish set up as far as dish alignment goes.

I know it sounds crazy but the Hughes will not load or recognize your local digital channels without loading your zip code into the system.

I had to keep experimenting until I got into the right menu section for the zipcode database to start downloading. Keep experimenting, you will find it if you look long enough.

Well I thought I would update the situation. I went to radio shack and purchased a different antenna.

I connected the coax cable direct into the antenna in to the back of the receiver and I got a signal of 76 with just laying the antenna on the top off the roof. I will install the antenna complete tomorrow and will adjust for optimal signal. Thanks for all your help.
