Was hot to buy a High Def VCr when I found out that everything was firewire.
Is there anything out there that connects with component or DVI to record programs.
The short answer is no, there are no consumer recording devices that use DVI or component video (copy protection issues, as well as the amount of data that these two connections carry).
That's why there's only firewire, or the "integrated" HD recorders that are coming for cable and satellite. There is an analogue D-VHS VCR that the pros use, but it's about $4-6k and it doesn't even do digital sound.
The other alternative is HTPC (recording on a PC).

The JVCs use component (yuv). Firewire only works with non-protected (self recorded) media and doesnt work wich d-theater.
Guy, we're talking about intputs (for recording), not outputs. I don't believe the consumer D-VHS decks (JVC) have component video inputs. The signal output to the TV is CV.
As stated before, there are some commercial units that have component video inputs, but they are analogue and can't record DD since it's digital.

the only thing I know that has component inputs, are professional video capture cards.
i'm waiting for mine!
Wow, you get the prize for waking up a 3.5 year old thread. ;) There are CV inputs on some consumer DVD recorders (usually expensive), but they are limited to 480i, as are CV inputs on all consumer devices.
As you state, some professional (expensive) devices/cards have CV inputs.

if you can find one, a W-VHS deck may suit your fancy. It records analog 1080i with component inputs.
