Anyone have experience with making their own custom cables?

I am interrested in making my own Component Video cables. I am under the impression, from taking apart a few "monster cables", that they are just RG-59U cable with copper sheilding and gold plated ends.

Will there be any difference between my home made cable and that of a monster cable? If my cable is inferior will it still be better than that of Radio Shack Gold?

Use RG-6 and good connectors.

Do the length of the cables have to same for all 3 cables in component cable ? Does it really matter if they are a few millimeters off ?
Theorotically I wouldnt think so if current travels at 3E8 m/sec. The signals are out of phase for 3.33E-11 sec for 10mm or 0.4 in length difference.
