lordalge,
We just bought the KDE 50XBR950 but it will not be put on our wall till just before Christmas. I use rooftop aerial for local and non-Directv at this point. I plan on getting HD Tivo when it comes out in the Spring.
It sounds like you are not too fond of picture quality you have for standard definition. Is this true? I am just trying to understand what to expect. I thought it looked acceptable in the showroom but you are better judge at this point. I sure would like your clarifcation or anybody else's on this plasma.
Thanks

The 931 takes the 480i signal in a DVD, deinterlaces and upconverts it to 720P or 1080i, not that much different from what happens in a PS DVD player and an HDTV with good upconversion.
The only difference is that it all happens in the digital domain and stays there if you use a DVI connector. This makes a minor difference in picture quality. See the FAQ on DVI Connectors.
For more information on the 931, type the make/model number into the site's search engine.
Oh, and press the CAPSLOCK button an odd number of times before you return. Thanks.

After a little more testing I found out.....
1... The tivo does look good if you don't save alot of shows
I think since there is no recording quality settings it drops the quality
when it runs low on space
2...DVD's look great (especially newer ones like Peter Gabriel
Growing Up Tour)
3..The tough part is that HD Broadcasts from Channels like KCET (PBS)
can look so amazing you get hooked on that type of clarity!!!
Back to the TV itself...
1...The DVI cable that comes with the TV is only 9 ft
this wasnt long enough for me so I called Sony Parts Direct
and got the 30ft cable, it came in 2 days . Part # VMC-P10
2...The Sound Quality of the built in speakers (only removable on the 61")
are quite good for casual viewing
3...The Sony wall mount is only good if you line in up with studs
If you have to center it over a fireplace I suggest a different mount
4...The Digital Video Camera input (Firewire) looks better than
the DVDs I Made with iDVD 2
5...Still Photos from the Memory Stick are unbelievable!!!
The Slide Show is a bonus
I can't wait to set up my 50" and 42" XBR's also but the 61" is still awsome
Thanx
