View Full Version : Reception Question

I have a Mitsubishi 60" HDTV ready hooked up to a hughes e86 HDTV receiver, I am getting everthing great except for the DirectTV 199 station and the HBO HDtv station, they are both black and then stating the satelite receiver is looking for reception. The Best Buy guy came and said the strength was fine and thought it was the receiver and said to take it back to Best Buy. I did that but still have the same problem. Please help!

Another issue is cable hook-ups. I have direct tv inputs, a composite input, 2 other inputs and an S video. Which one should I hook-up my DVD player too?

Last, my receiver is in 10801 mode, when I switch to 480, I receive nothing. Should I have another set of cable hooked up for Direct TV other than the HD ones?

Thanks

This is probably a stupid question, but what kind of dish do you have? Round or Elliptical?

Hook your HD receiver to the component video inputs to carry HD signals. HD signals only travel through component video cables, not S-Video or Composite. (they also travel by firewire and DVI, but there aren't too many of those yet.)

Hook your DVD player via component video cables, if you have the outputs and inputs available. If not, use S-Video - there is not a lot of difference on DVDs.

In many instances you'll have to "duplicate" the cabling using S-Video or composite, because the "menu items" or "standard TV" signals only travel through S-Video or Composite.

Oval dish with dual arms, if that makes sense.

Call DirecTV and ask them to 'turn on' your HD package. May take a few calls to get a CSR that's literate, but all they need to do is enable the HD package.
