Hi all,

I have Sony KP-65WS500 digital TV & just got the cox HD service in Phx. I connected the RGB from STB to my TV. But the HD channels are not clear at all. The middle of the screen,is very clear but on the sides I can see Red & Green borders on all.

Cox came by and said that I need a seperate HD Receiver, with 480i to 1080i input/output. The supplier (Ultimate Electronics) said Cox signals are not good, and the component video inputs are all I need to wath HD with a HD receiver that Cox has provided.

I have asked for the Sony persons to come by and take a look. In the meantime, anyone come across this problem and any suggestions?

Thx, TL

ohhhh man... glad i read this thread... first of all i work for Cox and i can guarantee you it aint cox and no you dont need 2 STB's.... secondly your tv sounds to me like the convergance is WAY off on 1080i and since you cant do a manual convergance unless you go to the service menu youll be stuck with that picture until you have that corrected......... anytime you have red or green or blue hazing or borders your convergance is off... convergance has to be set in 480p and 1080i... you might do this just to check... turn to a HD channel and do the auto convergance on the TV which is a button under the panel on the front of the tv...

I have Cox HD in Phoenix and the signal is fine. That doesn't sound like your problem.

What model stb do you have?

Try the Flash Focus on an HD channel as mikehbkwm suggested. That should solve your problem.

The only models Cox offers is the SA 3100 or 3250
Motorola 5100 or 6200 and neither have any known issue with regard to what your talking about just to give you a little more peace of mind...........

I tried the auto convergence. Still no luck. I had the tubes replaced due to the SOny Flickker problem couple of months ago. May be the tech has screwed up the convergence at that time. But, if the convergence is not right, shouldn't I be seeing this problems while watching DVD on Other input (Component input) also. OR does the TV have different convergence for different inputs?

Anyway, Sony tech is coming next monday. Until then I am stuck with the picture I have..

BTW, I have Sony KP-65ws500 and Scientific Atlanta hd3200 STB from cox.

no, convergance has to be set for 480i/p and 1080i so yeah if he didnt set it when he replaced the crt's then yeah thats exactly what your problem is.......

When Sony replaced my crt's the tech couldn't get the convergence right they ended up replacing my 57wv600 with a new one.

I also have Cox HD in Phoenix with a 3270HD and have not heard of any problem like yours with any box. It is almost certainly something with your TV or connections.

I had a similar issue when I originally got set up thru Comcast with component video. Turned out the tech that set it up didn't set it up properly and when I wanted to watch HD channels, I had to switch to Video 5 or 6...

Sounds like your problem is more involved, but you never know...

Ok. The service dude came by and fixed the convergence, which was way off for Digital input.

Oh my god. TV never has looked so good before. Watched TLOTR on STARZ & it was awesome. Will be watching MNF tonite.

Only complaint now is that Cox doesn't carry enogh HD channels :). Any idea when they will be adding NBC, HDNET & other channels??

Thx to all for helping out..
