It's a good tv, but 720p gets converted to 480p. So 1080i is the only resolution you want to use.

I was watching a 720p program that looked awful with this set. Although I have the STB set to 1080i, the picture did not look near as good as the 1080i broadcast. It was the same program, "State of the Union". Anyway, I saw in the manual and on this forum that it converts 720p to 480p. However, I have an e-mail from their customer support dated 10/9/03 (when I bought) that it does not down convert? Confused and need help/advice. Shouldn't the STB convert the picture to 1080i and I be all right? If so, why does it look that bad after the conversion? Is there anyway to tell what resolution you are getting while watching a program?

your set top box should upconvert anything in 720p to 1080i on all high def broadcasts.

What does it matter what we think. DO YOU like it?
It is all opinion any way - read the FAQ's and if you still have buyers remorse take it back and get different brand.

I read most of the FAQs and have searched various websites for this info. Mr. Moderator: I am sorry to have wasted your time as well as that of this forum. I tried to be specific in my reply by including the model number to reduce those who felt it was relevant. If you look at my post, I asked 3 specific questions at the end. It didn't have anything to do with opinion or what people thought. You either read it and had an answer or not. I just thought that some people may have had the same situation and could offer advice. I was trying to find out if it was something I was doing wrong, etc. I don't think it will be easy to return a TV that I bought in October. I do thank "hawks066" for the reply; I did have the box set to 1080i but it still looked bad. Maybe it was just that night? Oh well, I'll try elsewhere for answers. Thanks.

Your set top will make everything HD in 1080i, unless you change it in the user menu. Did the State of the Union look bad on all broadcasts of it? ABC, NBC, and CBS were all showing it. I believe they all looked pretty much the same around here, but the broadcast to me looked spectacular. One of those channels might not have been as good, can't remember which one, but still far from mediocre.
