I am a mewbie trying to recieve HDtv.
Do you guys know of any HDTV RPTVs that display 480i, 480p,720p, and 1080i?
I have not been able to find one. They all convert the 720p to 1080i. I am near Chicago and can recieve ABC in 720p.

All STB's can receive any format (480I,P;720P;1080I)and produce a picture on an HDTV via the component inputs or internally if the HDTV has a built-in ATSC tuner.
Component inputs on most all HDTV can natively accept 480I, 480P, and 1080I. Very few will accept 720P natively and display a 720P picture. The majority of TV's upconvert to 1080I.
Broadcasts can be any format (IE ABC's 720P) and the tuner/receiver/STB will upconvert the received signal to 1080I for the TV.
Don't sweat the ABC/720P stuff. If you really believe that you need an STB and HDTV that will natively output 720P, then be prepared to do a lot hunting and expect to pay a lot more money.

I went to look at TV and the guy had a DishNetwork feed on. It looked real GOOD!!
Do you know what they broadcast in?
So there really isn't a difference in 1080i and 720p to worry about?

Dish's HDTV feeds are in 1080i. I think that only ABC and possibly a few local stations are the only ones currently broadcasting in 720p. There may be others, but we only get CBS here in New Orleans right now so I couldn't say for certain. I do know that for the national feeds CBS and NBC (and I think the PBS national feed) use 1080i. ABC is 720p and FOX is 480p. I'm not positive what WB or UPN have decided upon.
Some folks claim to notice that 720p seems a bit "smoother" and while watching 720p on a 1080i upconvert you may notice a few more artifacts in fast moving or panning shots. However for the most part, for most people, the difference seems to be barely, if at all, noticeable.

a couple of years ago the Panasonics supported 720P and then quit.
But now the Toshiba Cinema-HDX now support 720P natively.
Models so far are 57HDX82 (57") and 65HDX82 (65")
