I just received my sony 60we610 after 9 weeks of waiting. It looks awesome. I didn't try the set yet because I had to go back to work. Tonight, I'm going to set it up and calibrate it with AVIA. It's gonna be long night for me since I''m gonna try everything. I can't wait till I hook it up with Sammy HD-931. If anyone who also has this set, you're welcome to give me any tips. Hope I don't come across with any malfucntion. Wish me luck.

I just got the same TV and DVD player, but I got the 50 incher. The two together seem to work great. Make sure you get the DVD player that comes with the DVI cable. some of the Sammies do and some don't, that cable cost 100.00 bucks so getting it free is sweet.

Going to get me a set up disc tonite so I can calibrate it can't wait!

See the FAQ on "What you need to do to your HDTV". Any of these setup DVDs can be purchased online or at some electronic stores.

The setup DVDs will not void your warranty. Going into the service menu may, if you damage your set, but I've not heard that issue ever coming up...

thanks 57

I will most likely buy the
Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune Up

price seems right
this has got to be the best site on HDTV I have seen

The new DVE disk is an alternative to S&V and is about the same price. I can't say which is better (I bought my AVIA about 3 years ago...)

just bought the new DVE disc so we will see how that works out in about 2 weeks when the TV shows up.

the worse part about getting the TV was buying the stand. ripoff!

speaking of the stand... i got the SUGW1

does anyone else have that stand with the KF60WE610?

let me know how it fits and all that, thanks!

I read somewhere that IKEA makes some stands that fit certain LCD, DLP TVs almost perfectly, have room for equipment and are a lot cheaper....

TheBobGoat

I was checking IKEA -- they have some stuff... seems a little rickety -- the best one i saw holds 150 lbs...i know the TV is 100 lbs, but I cant really see the stand

Where I live, there are barely stores!

So I got the sony one from a friend in Chicago who said it should fit and its nice.

I know sony is taking me on this one, but you only live once!

I have the Grand wega 60 inch stand and I must say I love it. It is very modern looking and it also has very unique features that actually allow you to lock your TV to the stand. Simply put the TV on it and if it is in the right place it will all click together. Also there is a very cool strap on the back of the stand that snaps into the TV to prevent it from falling over. It is truly a beautiful stand for a beautiful Television and I guarantee you will be extremely happy with this setup. I would never buy a knock off stand for a TV this expensive, it kind of defeats the purpose.

just to let you know I also baught the sammy 931HD with my KF60WE610. needless to say I hated it and braught it back about 6 hours later. I hooked it up through the DVI and compared it side by side with my JVC Prog Scan that I hooked through S-Video for the test. The sad thing was my JVC through S-Video looked alot better than the sammy through DVI!!! me and my Friend who works at future shop here in Ottawa that sold me the package tried to play with the Sammy for hours but in the end it looked nowhere near as nice as the JVC. It was suppose to upconvert a standard DVD to near HD Quality {yeah Right!} To both of us it looked fake. All the sammy did was throw extra color into the picture {that was not a good thing } I had charlies angels on and it made Bernie Macs face all Red {I noticed that they where in a mahogany room and everything in there also was alot more red than it should be} in another scene they are in an office and everything looked yellow {it that scene the couches and a few paintings where yellow, but so where people's faces}
My only guess is that the sammy recognizes what colors there are most of in a scene and it just throws more of that same color. {would be so bad if it threw the color in the right place, but I'm talking it throws it anywhere it feels like} If I was you I would bring the sammy back and get a good quality Prog Scan and also save yourself some money. The Sammy is not worth the cost or the hassle. {You might not notice as much until you compare them side by side with the same DVD in 2 players on the same scene at the same time. And then you will be amazed at how fake the sammy looks!!!} Hope I could be of help to you..

did the sammy 931 come with the DVI cable?

i guess my TV is on a 2 week back order is what they told me -- its a nationwide thing.

Some of the 931s come with the DVI cable, some do not. You have to check the box, or whomever you're buying from.

I bought mine at buy.com and it came with the DVI cable and it has no difference in PQ between Monster DVI cable which I returned. i saved $90 bucks.

I hooked my 60we610 with SAmmy 931 through DVI and another Sony DVD PS player using component and did a comparison. Sammy did look noticeably better in PQ. It almost looks as good as HBO-HD movies.

max, did you have the DVI button enabled at 720P? Did you do any calibration using AVIA or DVE etc.?

TheBobGoat

i bought all my stuff at once and its still on its way (du to my 60WE610 on back order)

i found the dvdhd931 cheaper at amazon than what I paid for it ...50 bucks --- I know the one im getting has the DVI coming with it (salesman assured me)

so I emailed the other place to see if the ones they are selling cheaper will have the cables. we will see

im glad to hear your PQ is good with it -- this waiting is killing me (esp when people have been saying a lot of neg. thing s about the sony lcds and the 931)

I had the sammy hooked up through the DVI connection and I also had my TV tuned up for me by an ISF Tech!

The sammy in my opinion is garbage and there are alot of better DVD players out there for cheaper {But that's just my opinion from what I was looking at and comparing it to} Some people on forums literally bash the KF60WE610 but also in my opinion there is not a better TV on the market for me. Also when you compared it to your Sony DVD player, was the sony DVD player a prog Scan?

Most of the Sony DVD players are not prog scan and it really makes a big difference.

well, i just hooked it all up -- the 60we610 and the sammy 931

looked better with component -- bottom line

i compared all three dvi settings on different movies to the component with prog scan.

the darks are just too dark and the lights too light for me with the dvi -- i am going to send it back and get a basic prog scan model until i hear something better with dvi comes out

any last minute suggestions?

I tried to tell you in advance that you wouldn't like the Sammy DVI So Called HD Player, But I am willing to bet you are in love with the Sony GWIII! You can buy another DVD Player that will work well with your T.V, My JVC Goes extremely well with the GWIII in my opinion. Congrats on your purchase, I hope you enjoy your KF60WE610 as much as I love mine. Watch Jay Leno in HD, the picture from that show makes jaws drop on our T.V's
My friend just baught a Sony Plasma and now he is bringing it back to purchase our T.V all because Jay looked better on my T.V then his, he should have just listened to me and baught the KF60WE610 in the first place.

Also how long did you wait for your T.V? there seems to be a shortage in the United States, I recieved mine the day after I baught it! Here in Canada there is more than enough of this model to go around.

I think you guys who bash the 931 through the DVI output have serious eye problems. I have one and I love it.

Additionally, I hope your Sony last longer than mine did.

Well when I hooked up my Sammy I had about 7 friends with me comparing it to my JVC, I put the same movie on both DVD Players and just switch from one input to the next, I set the input names both to DVD so no one in the room could tell what DVD player they were looking at. And after all that everyone in the room chose the JVC without even knowing it was the JVC. So your gonna tell me that we all have bad eye's? Maybe you are just easily impressed!!!

Also I have had my KF60WE610 for 3 months and it works like a dream, I love it! but if by some chance it does break down I have the 5 year warranty and also my best friend works at Future Shop and he is the one who sold it to me, he always makes sure I get the best service. He also told me that the Sony Models with problems are manufactured in the States, he has sold 74 KF60WE610's since october and no one has called to have 1 fixed!
everyone is happy with them down here and there is no shortage or back orders.

I am sure all your friends were totally impartial.

The last time I checked all of the Sony RPLCDs were made in the same location (according to the Sony Cust. Service Rep.). I am sure you realize that just because your set has not failed from the infamous lamp issue it does not mean it will not fail. The true way to find out is to call a authorized service shop and give them your serial number and manufacture date. If your set qualifies for the service bulletin fix I suggest getting it done before it fails. This fix not only replaces the lamp but the power supply board also needs to be modified. This will take more than just one day in some cases.

Don't get me wrong I love Sony products. I have 2 other Sony TVs, two Sony receivers, and various other Sony products. However, I would never knowingly buy a product that has a KNOWN DEFECT! I believe my had earned money deserves more respect. I am not saying I will not buy another Sony products because they are usually reliable. Unfortunately, the unit that you purchased does have issues, and I sincerly hope that the unit that you purchased does not need the power supply fix. If it does why wait until it fails, unless you are afraid to find out the truth.

I am not afraid and I am also not worried, everything is working perfect. Also my friends weren't impartial they really didn't know which DVD player I had on the screen at what time. I had them both hooked up playing my copy of matrix reloaded and a friends copy of the Matrix reloaded at the same time. Both inputs on the screen were labeled DVD and I just randomly went back an forth from input to input,at the end the JVC DVD Player won by a land slide and it doesn't claim to be near HD quality it's just Prog Scan. I am not the only person that has said this DVD player is not worth a penny. Just type Samsung 931HD review in any search engine and you will see how many people have complaints about this machine and the lies it claims. Every company has defects so pretty much on any purchase you are taking a chance with your money. So far I have been lucky out of the 5 T.V's that I have baught in the past 3 years {4 Sony and 1 JVC} the only one I ever needed to get fixed was the JVC!!! Also Future Shop here in Canada provides in home service so I cant imagine them working on the T.V for more than a day if it did blow out. But hey everyone has there opinion, You hate the T.V that I think is by far one of the best on the market and you love the DVD Player that I think is garbage!!! So no point on bickering!!!
