I am new to HDTV and this forum, and first I would like to thank all of you for the wealth of information here! I am still early on the learning curve so please bear with me.

I just purchased a Sony KF-42WE610, in no small part due to the reviews and explanations in this forum. I am extremely pleased with the set, especially at how sharp and colorful some regular cable channels are, not to mention DVDs. I do, however, have one concern.

There is a baseball-sized spot just above the center of the screen that is very faint, but noticeable when the set is off or during dark scenes. It is very faint, and does not distract from the viewing, but I want to make sure it is not a sign of a much worse problem.

The closest thing I have found to this in researching forum threads seems to be cases of ambient light inside RPTVs reflecting on the back of the screen. However, this spot is very faint and does not seem to change with the amount of room ambient light available for leaking into the set. It almost appears as if someone started to erase the screen with a rubber eraser. I have not seen anything else posted similar to what I am seeing, sorry if this issue is already covered and I missed it. I also could find no mention of this in the FAQs on the Sony web site.

We love the set otherwise, and if this spot is not a sign of a potentially worsening defect, we can easily live with it.

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

Page 7 of the operating manual for the 60" version of this set states, "Although the LCD projection TV is made with high-precision technology, black dots may appear or bright points of light (red, blue, or green) may appear constntly on the LCD screen. This is a structual property of the LCD panel and is not a malfunction."

Hope this helps.

Yogislayer,

Thanks for the response, my manual for the 42" has a similar statement. The spot is hard to describe, but it is definitely not a dead pixel or group of dead pixels. I have been very fortunate in that respect.

I doubt it is serious, but I haven't seen any other mention of this type of anomaly and I am curious if anyone else has seen it or knows what it might be.

I hope you are enjoying your 60" Sony as much as I am my little one! Wish I had the space for that one.
