For those of you who even know what I'm talking about, I would LOVE to see DCI finals in HD. I know that PBS really has nothing to do with the production of this show, but I think they should at least show it in 16X9.
Now I'll wait a year until the next person who knows anything about this responds...

I doubt it will be, but may I suggest Drumline might fill the void. Although I don’t think it’s schedule to be broadcast in HDTV in January.

I wonder how long it'll be before we see that? Have you seen the DVD's?
I don't think Drumline would fill the void for a real DCI lover though.

Yeah, I've got the 2000, 2001, and 2002 DVDs. They're great! I've even got 1979-1999 DVD's from DCI's Legacy Collection, but they were just transferred from the old videos.
I marched Cavaliers from 98-01, so you're right, Drumline's not really going to fill that void!

Here's a little update from Tom Blair, producer of the finals broadcast, in response to a question that I asked:

"You want to talk about widescreen vs. 4:3 hell, I am in it right now. I am working on the Super Bowl for CBS and we are going through the process of serving both masters: we are broadcasting the game in HD and SD (standard definition) simultaneously. Graphics have to be built anamophically so that they will work in both aspect ratios, safe title areas change - it's a pain. It will be much easier when we're all high def.
As for 16x9 (widescreen) for drum corps; it would be perfect. Step up to HD, and we could watch the whole show from the high camera and still see the sticks in the snare line.

HD is very much on my radar for DCI. It's a matter of money and justifying the cost. I think it's coming sooner than later.

I'll check in here again after I'm done in Houston.

Wow I love watching DCI! I remember taping it back in the early 90's when I was still in jr high. That would be great if its in HD. Anyways my local PBS (jacksonville fl) says its broadcasting in HD but I still see gray bars on the sides :( Maybe they dont air any shows in HD yet.
