I currently have no cable service. I have pretty much finalized which HDTV device I want and I am trying to decide which provider to go with ExpressVu or Rogers.

I basically want to want watch as much sports as possible without getting the other channels.

From reading the website I get the idea that if I rent the rogers HD hardware I must pay for basic cable first(analog channels). $24.00 per month.

Then I pay for the HD channel I want for 2.49 a month plus $15 a month for the HD receiver.

Is this the case??

What packages are people using out there on rogers.

I have one of the Rogers HD bundles. I think it's a good value if you also use Rogers for broadband internet.

HD channels do not cost any money on Rogers as far as I know, except for TMN-HD, which you only get if you subscribe to TMN.

If you don't subscribe to any of the digital channels, then there is a small additional charge per month if I recall.

They usually give you all/some of the digital channels for free for several months to try to "hook" you as soon as you get the digital terminal (HD also). The current STB is the SA3100HD. Soon, they will have the SA3250HD available, as well as the SA8000HD DVR in a few months.

Call Rogers and ask them about pricing/packages...

Lanceflash,

You would need to subscribe to at least Basic cable which will be around $22.99. $14.95 pays for the terminal and the HD Channels. TMN is 12.95 which will include both 5 standard Def TMN channels and 1 HD TMN channel. PM me if you need more info on Rogers Products and pricing.

Thanks for the info.

I think I have to go with Rogers because I dont wont to be forced to buy the Expressvu equipment. I noticed that hardware Expressvu sold a mere year or so (6-700$) they give a measley $100 rebate.

I think I will be able to meet my needs for $55 per month at rogers which included the HDTV receiver and HD channel and a decent helping of sports channels.

I got rogers coming in this sunday.

I have not seen their hdtv receiever but do you have any idea of the what ports they have for connecting (I now have a projector on loan) to hdtv devices.

I hope to have it figured out before the first nfl games which I guess is about 1:00pm and the rogers guy is supposed to complete his work by 11:00am.

I might be able to help myself if I can get the cables before hand.

Rogers uses the SA3100HD in Ontario. I don't know where you're located - it's a good idea to put this in your profile because it can assist with answers.

See the FAQ on "Cables & Connections" There's a link in there on how to hook up the unit and some helpful hints. Read the entire FAQ carefully.

If you get a Motorola in Atlantic Canada, the connections are similar, but not identical.

To get an HDtv terminal from rogers, you need to have basic cable as a minimum, (which are channels 2-28, and 60-67 I think) when you get basic cable and add the HD box for 11.95 a month you get the standard HDtv pack, which includes 14 HD channels, you now have to pay for the other HDchannels which are tsn, pbs, nbc, discovery, fox, cbs, and abc, and inorder to even pay for the extra channels you have to subscribe to what is called basic + Combo, combo adding another 16 bucks to the bill you might as well hit up getting ultimate for 20.99 a month more its 5 bucks more but adds a lot more channels. Its because of TSN needing to be subscribed to in analog before you can get the hd one really stupid but anyways. so here are your two options,

Basic 23.99/mth
HD Termial 14.95mth
plus taxes and you get your 14 standard HDchannles

OR

Basic + Combo 39.99mth
HD Terminal 14.95
HD Specialty Pack 4.95 a month

Thats the gist of it, there a few discounts you could go onto like better choice bundles and so on but that gives you the base. anyways don't know if you got all that info yet but i was bored and thought id write it. lol

Hi, I just bought a Samsung DLP HDTV and was wondering if I would need a Roger's digital box in order to receive the HD channels or the HD Terminal is all I would need ontop of my already existing cable services?

You need Rogers HD STB. Either the SA3250HD, or the SA8300HD (DVR). I would suggest the DVR.

Rogers have some "older" SA3100HDs and SA8000HDs but I would not suggest either.

Do a search on this site by model number for information on these STBs.
