You will probably need a TERK antenna. Some people don't like them, but from my experience (I use a TERK55 for OTA), as long as you aim it correctly, it works great, and will provide a much better picture than regular UHF antenna.

Is there a web site to find out how far you are from a transmitter? I live near Oxford, MS about 60 miles from downtown Memphis. The Memphis stations all currently broadcast in HDTV. I tried a Radio Shack U-75R UHF antenna. The first day I was able to get the show "Hack" from CBS. The next day I could not get the signal again. I have ordered a Channel Master 4248 antenna and hope this works.

This won't help for distance, but for direction:

The Terk comment not withstanding try this sight for one stop shopping

60 miles is above the limits of most antennas for UHF unless you go very high. Post your Zip and monday I can get you an estimate of how far from towers you are.

KevinW my zip code is 38627.

I used antenna web site and it said if I had a BLUE LEVEL antenna I could pick up the Memphis feeds. I tried a RED LEVEL antenna with a preamp (MEDIUM SIZE DIRECTIONAL WITH PRE-AMP makes it a BLUE LEVEL). This worked fine on the first day, but has not since. I will only need this until the Tupelo/Columbus Mississippi stations are broadcasting in HDTV in May or June of 2003. I will then only need a GREEN LEVEL antenna. I have the following equipment for HDTV: 1-Hughes E86; 2-Radio Shack U-75R UHF Antenna with a Pre Amp; and 3-Mitz HD Ready Widescreen TV (Model WS55509-I think that is right, I am wrtining this e-mail from work).

You absolutely need the biggest antenna -RS-VU-190
and still may need an amp. Get a rotor, from your location depending upon topography- hills, trees and buildings you could swing to multiple stations.
Memphis is a good 60+ miles. You will have some experimentation to do. Even the new stations near Tupelo, may not be at full strength for a while.

Thanks for the Information. I have found a web site that will explain whether you are in the coverage area or not. Try it out. It is really good.
