I purchased the Concert in Central Park this week. The front of the DVD says Hi Def Widescreen Video.
I must admit it is an incredible experience on my Sony42 inch with external speaker. I am not sure whether it was HD but the audio/visual brought a whole new experience to in home theaters. Does anyone know if this is true HD?

Current DVDs are only 480i with the exception of 2 which are T2 Extreme and Standing in the Shadows of Motown.... and you must have a powerful computer to run those....

It was probably shot with HD cameras, but it's still 480p from the DVD.

But.. I did happen to see the DVD demo'ed at BB on the floor displays and it did look REAL clean!

Correct 57u...
I should have specified 480p with a progressive scan player as all current DVD's are encoded at 480i.

DVDs are encoded as 480i. Anything after that is deinterlacing and/or upconversion.

I guess ratman doesnt remember the "golden" years of DVD players before everyone jumped on the Progessive scan bandwagon! My first DVD player couldnt even read DTS movies!

Man, the good ole times, huh?

Even if it's not HD, the Central Park concert has superb video and audio. A must for any big DM fan.

Uh... I certainly do, as I myself have now officially joined the "Golden Years Club" (I just turned 50!)

I remember when:
Video tapes where not in a cassette shell.
there were only 3 VHF channels in my area.
the largest TV screen was about 19"
only B&W TV.
Lear 8-track players for cars!
CD players were $800 and up.
on and on ...

Ah... the memories!!:smokin:

I'm a big DMB fan also. I think you can get it for a decent price at Best Buy. The DVD has exceptional audio and visual, must have.
