I just got DVE from Amazon and was reading the box which says "We've created NTSC, PAL and HDTV versions of DVE". I purchased the disk for an HDTV (which I will be getting soon) and think I may have the wrong disk. Mine says "NTSC Component" and not HDTV, but it is the only one I saw on Amazon. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance!

You got the right one. DVDs are not HD, they are 480i. The HD ones are tapes, not DVDs.

I just ordered a copy from overstock but I ordered the PAL version. I have a RPTV HD monitor set. Is this the right one for my type of tv?

Not unless you live in Europe.

North America is NTSC.

Is this really an essential? What all does the DVE disk do for you? If I purchase one I guess I would get the NTSC version?

It's not "essential" but read the FAQ "What you need to do to your new HDTV".

Yes... as specified in the earlier post.

Thanks guys. I was in the same boat, received the "NTSC" and thought I needed the "HDTV" version. Really eased my mind to read that this was the correct one for calibrating my new Sony 50" Grand Wega. I don't understand how the tapes for the HDTV work, but who cares, I guess. Just wanted to say this is a great site, and look forward to it answering my questions for years to come!

..... I don't understand how the tapes for the HDTV work, but who cares, I guess. ....

Quick note. If you have a D-VHS tape deck than you would use the DVE tape one (HDTV) since you output a true HD signal with these tape decks. I'm sure when HD-DVD hits the scene you will be able to purchase a DVE HD dvd one.
