If the rumour I read elsewhere is true, tune in at 12 noon EST for the Daytona in HD. This should blow Fox out of the water if it's true.
Pretty soon people won't go out any more. In February alone we have
Super Bowl
Daytona
Oscar
Grammy
NHL All Star?

The Busch Series race the Saturday before the 500 ( Hershey's Kisses 300 ) is also supposed to be broadcast in HD on NBC.

Per Ken H. owner and moderator at AVS this true:
The 46th annual Daytona 500 will be the first NASCAR race to be covered in HDTV. Details are still slim at this time, but HD coverage was confirmed directly to AVS, by NBC earlier today.
Last years Daytona 500 drew its highest ratings ever for start-to-finish coverage and was the most-watched auto race since 1984. NBC's telecast, its first airing of the race under a six-year deal with NASCAR, drew a 10.9 rating Sunday with a 26 share, a jump of 9 percent from the 10.0 rating for the 2002 Daytona 500 broadcast on Fox.
HD coverage will begin 12pm ET, Sunday February 15, 2004.
Thanks Ken
Here's confirmation:

Do they have cheerleaders at these NASCAR races? Watching cars go round in circles (er, ovals) "duzn't git it" fer me.

Hey now, NASCAR is or is very close to being the most popular sport in America, you are in the minority I'm afraid.

So it still sucks!! I agree I'd rather go to the dentist that watch those rednecks in low tech cars drive around in circles for 4 hours. Give me an Indy car race or an F1 race on a road course to show off a car's tech and drivers ability.
I think you mean "CART", not "INDY" cars since the latter only do the "roundy rounds".
The NASCAR drivers actually do very well in the races with identical cars with drivers from various disciplines (IROC?). I think the drafting technique probably comes into play with the identical cars though and there isn't much drafting in CART or F1, because you lose too much downforce through the corners.
What bugs me most about most "American" racing is the number of yellow flags. This "artificially" brings the cars closer together for the last few laps of the race. If you've ever seen a race without copious yellows, you'll see that even NASCAR is not that "close" at the end. The yellows would be like knocking Lance Armstrong off his bike half way up some mountain, just to allow the other racers to catch up. Keep racing "real", not artificial.

I was just reading the sports page a minute ago and was going to come and post that it WILL be brodcast in HDTV. Source is from the Tampa Tribune. It also said NBC will be brodcasting the Busch Herseys 300 the day before in HDTV as well.
Propts to NBC for this. I can't wait.

Okay, I guess it beats watching outdoor soccer
No really, what the hell do the europeans see in that? The ball goes out of bounds half the damn time.

All car racings rule! Watching it in HD is going to be amazing. I hope they also have the sound in 5.1.
Go Nascar, CART, IRL, F1 or anything on wheels.
