better picture quality versus OTA or just less (i think its called) pixelation (when the screen seems to act jumpy every so often)?

Both should be on par- no noticeable difference. Remember if you go the OTA route than you would have additional local HD programming made available to you. With Satellite you get what you pay for. Pixelation goes hand in hand with MPEG-2 no way around it.

Digital pictures if broadcast in the same resolution are equal on OTA and Cable...a bit washed out on D* however as they have less bandwidth to use!

I never get any pixelation on D* HD channels, but even with the strongest OTA signals pixelation pops up sometimes. However, OTA HD is not compressed and generally looks better then D* HD, except the Discovery Channel which looks better then anything else by far.
