DirecTV HD Upgrade for $399 Deal?

Greetings,

I wanted to ask if anyone recently (today is 01/23/04) has ordered the DirecTV HD upgrade deal for $399 they are running and what box you received in the mail?

I was informed on the phone that they have two boxes they ship but can't tell you or gaurantee which one you will get. The one is the new Hughes HTL-HD (which is the one I want) and the older Samsung SIR-T160.

I recently read on this forum that someone said DirecTV was out of stock on the Samsungs for a month or two and therefore were shipping the new Hughes? So I wanted to ask if anyone else has had the same experience on this deal?

If you've been with D* for at least 2 years they'll give you HD for $99.00, less than 2 yrs. it's $199.00.

You must call and get a retention rep though. The regular CS reps don't know anything about it. No choice on box........

What he's saying is true. There's a thread on avsforum.com that's about 20 pages long about this subject. I had ordered the $399 deal, and about two weeks later, I read the messages about the $99 deal. So i called Directv and asked to speak to the customer retention dept... that's the important part because the regular operators can't help at all. Anyways, they saw that I've been a customer for about a year and a half, and they credited $250 to my bill. It's a great deal.

does that include a new dish too or just reciever

It's the whole ball game......dish, receiver, install and in some cases the OTA antenna also.......

HOly Moly --I did the same and they credited my account 356.00!!!! thanks so much for the tip --my wife is MUCH happier now!
