I bought a Hitachi 57XWX20B projection TV for Christmas. We just had The Dish Network installed with their new EchoStar 811 HD receiver. This board had told me that for the very best picture since I was getting satellite (digital) and a Digital TV was to get a DVI cable. I went to Best Buy and paid the $100 (GASP) for the cable but figured it would be worth the price. When the technician hooked it up the picture was terrible. One a really dark or really light scene you could see the square pixels all over the place. It almost made the dark look negative. The technician then took out the DVI cable and put in a component cable. Didn't notice the pixels at all. He said maybe it had something to do with the tuner in my TV. I say...bunk.
Can somebody help me. I've written Hitachi but haven't heard anything. He said that The Dish Network people said they've never had this problem. :(

See the FAQ on DVI connectors. You can get them for under $20. Take the $100 one back.

The tuner is bypassed when receiving DVI. It may be a problem with the STB, or the TV, or the combination - DVI is relatively new and there have been some compatibility issues.

It could also be the cable; I just had TWC set up my HD service today and we kept getting an onscreen text message that my monitor (Sony KV-34HS510) was not HDCP capable (which it is). After half an hour fighting with it the technician tried another DVI cable and the problem went away.

Sounds like the cable, The 811 is NOT having problems using DVI or component for getting a picture. The dark picture issue is for any viewing using Svideo or composite(Red,White,Yellow).
