Hey folks,

My service company is bringing back my 51" HDTV Rear Projection Hitachi today (51F500) - they had taken just the insides out to bring to their shop to figure out a recurring problem (turns out it was a transformer in the back).

The service guy said that I may not need any manual adjustments (ie convergence or cannon alignments) needed when they put the guts back into the TV case/screen. He said he'll "take a look" after he puts it back together...

Can this be possible? Removed from the TV case, a truck ride there and back, and now a reinstall and they won't have to do anything to set the thing back up properly?

Should I believe this guy?

TIA,
smik

Not a chance if the Guns were removed they have to be re-aligned along with the geometery, convergence and redo all the settings for color, contrast etc.
Now if it was a reach in and unplug then replug you could be alright but I still would want to tweak everything for the best picture possible.

AFAIK... just moving an RPTV could/can require convergence adjustment(s). At a minimum...

Don't let that guy leave without you being satisfied! Buy an Avia or Video Essentials DVD to show the tech if necessary. I would bet that it will need an adjustment of some sort.

Yes they should have to adjust something. I like the calibration disk idea. Make sure the geometry is good!

Sometimes alot of companies say this, But in reality you may have a WHOLE different set.

Not many repair folks would go to those extremes without charging you about the cost of a new set.
