I recently purchased a Mitsubishi 55711 and I was wondering if this set will become obselete? Since it does not have DVI. It does have IEEE, but I have only a JVC DVCR that I find use for.

No, Yopu will have upgraded to bigger and better by the time DVI is mandatory.

Heck it won't be manditory anytime soon, but I sure like having it on my SONY  LOL.... Just kidding.... No to be honest the only advantage that I see is having an extra component input, other then that the picture quality is not overwhelming.... Enjoy your fine purchase...

I don't use mine. Everything goes through the receiver then out to the TV via component.

(Although if my receiver had DVI inputs and output, I'd use it. Newer tech is better tech, right?)

I used to connect every video source directly to my TV. (Purity?)

I gave that up. It's a lot easier letting the Receiver handle the switching.

I run most everything through the AV receiver also, but I do run my HD cable box straight to the tv for (Purity). Quite honestly I don't know how much clarity you loose going through the receiver if any that I can tell.
