Hi,

I'm new here and I've been lookin for an answer to my problem all over the net.

I have a sony kv36xbr400 bought in 2001. last fall i bought a sony DVP nc685, 5- disc, prog scan, sacd.

I have connected the dvd it the tv via the component out cables to Aux 5 of the wegs

I have set the dvd to 16:9 output in the set up menu (because the wega is a 16:9 enhanced TV)

I have set the dvd to Progressive/auto.

and I set the wega to 16:9 enhanced. So the picture is fine, great, better than my old player.

BUT, when I switch inputs back to cable or HD when I go back to DVD I have to reset the wega to 16:9. It won't auto detect the 16:9 480p.

It does auto detct standard dvd, 480i, but not 480p. It is really irritating because I have a universal remote and I have to use the wegas remote because the menues are toggle driven. and with dvds when the movie is anamorphic and the extras are 4:3 I have to switch back and forth.

Sony was no help they just said the TV was too old. That's rediculus, they had prog scan back then how did it work with a prog scan player of the same vintage?

Thanks
all help is appreciated.

Jim

The new Toshibas are the same. I guess the circuitry only works on 480i, not 480P. Try toggling back and forth between 480i and 480P on the DVD player and see if you notice a difference in picture quality. If you don't, leave it in 480i.

I'm not sure if this circuitry will properly detect non-anamorphic (not enhanced for widescreen) DVDs properly, or not...

If you need to find the proper stretch mode manually, see the FAQs "Widescreen stretch modes" and "Black bars".
